i couldnt resist it...the bikes still not 'ready' (ie i havent finished cleaning it to within an inch of its life), and has got old crappy tyres-(albeit theyve only done perhaps 500miles, but have been languishing in my loft for 3 yrs...)..but shes serviced and street legal and we had the promise of a little bit of dry road and sunshine...
the only journeys ive done on the bike until today were to and from the garage to be serviced but i today i did about 100miles...
okay, so i was freezing my arse off after about 30 mins, was totally out of practice, and had zero confidence in the tyres but for the most part i had a great time..no knee down nonsense today.too cold and damp for that and i dont trust the rubber, but i did start to explore the feel of the bike, where the power was, the braking and so on...in some ways its quite similar to my Ducati but in others it brought back memories of the countless rice burners ive ridden.
in terms of sheer power the 750 is no match for the Gixxer thou i had as a 9 month insurance loan bike, but it was so much more communicative and engaging...also i think its much easier to find the limits on the bike (not that i personally ever could!), as its so intimate to ride...okay so im a baby on the thing, but at times i got an insight into the potential of the handling..it is very much like a Duke in the way that the faster you ride, the more planted and secure the bike feels, although the front wheel did slide on me today which was sobering..i think conditions, jockey control, and tyres were maybe to blame..it also requires an assertive, confident input to reap the rewards..i love the taught feel of the bike...this is pure Ducati territory for me..When i think of the Jap bikes ive owned the MV is light years ahead as a package-even if then spec sheet tells a different story..my old Fireblade by comparison was a tankslapping, wide, scarey, dangerous liability..

i can easily imagine developing that magic connection with the bike as i have with my Duke...there is something about the MV that makes it seem more like a Duke than say a Gixxer, or R1 even though its an IL4...anyway, once i develop trust in the bike (always takes me a while with a new 'un) i think i can see the start of a love affair!! hmmm..will i be hankering for the 1000cc???

Nice one, despite a reasonable weather forecast, the sun didn't get out and things start to dry up here until after lunch, otherwise I was hoping to get out for a ride too. Tomorrow's weather isn't too great either but we live in hope.

Good to hear you've stretched the MV's legs Mr.Rimples. Top stuff innit?! :yo:

I was out and about today, roads in Herts were patchy dry/wet, so had to go a bit carefully. Had a great time until I got caught in a hailstorm :wtf: on the way back home along the A10!

Only my third ride out, but I think you're spot on with the Italian connection mate. Ok its an IL4, but I havent ever ridden anything as addictive as this - I just cant wait to get back out there. I really enjoyed the 848 last year but this is a big step forward, fcuking fantastic machine :heart::heart: - so glad I didn't go with peoples' well-meaning advice and buy BeeEm's boss-eyed panzer :crazyeyes

its the sound.

the mv motor does not sound at refined or smooth as a japanese inline 4. its more like ducati in that it sounds a lot more "mechanical" when its working and it feels that way too.

we can rag on the japanese bikes all we want but you have to admit a honda inline 4 is basically as smooth and quiet an engine as you can get, it revs like crazy, has little to no vibration while doing so, and makes a ton of power on the dyno when you look at it and the fueling is basically spot on. from what i'm reading none of that is true about an mv out of the box ever.

but then again the quirks are what make an mv and mv from what i read, and i like the sort of mechanical sound that the mv motor makes and the ducati makes even though in both senses they may not be the most efficient at what they do.
