HELP with ITV in Spain

Hi All, I hope I am posting this in the right place! I took my 2010 F4 to ITV in Salamanca, Spain (It is kinda like our smog inspection in USA, but hell of a lot more stuff to test/check).

Unfortunately, I failed the most ridiculous of all test. My License plate holder is not original, and therefore not acceptable! Evidently the factory license plate/placa holder attaches the plate passed the exhaust tip and ITV regulation. My present one is about couple of inches before the tip and presumably, an after market type.

If anyone here has the original part, I would be glad to buy and pay for your postage to Spain. I have 30 days to do this before I am in trouble.
If you are in Spain,,Ill gladly pay for the above plus drinks and tapas.
THANK YOU in advance for ANY help

What does the license plate holder have to do with emissions (smog) ???? Crazy.

This is a bike that is 11 years old..... This is just a problem now? Wow. Can you post some pictures of how it looks now and what it needs to be in order to pass? Maybe collectively we can come up with something.

I have attached a few photos, I bought the bike last year, rode it for 3 weeks, left Spain and came back last week. I have talked to the company (MotosNet) that I bought it from, they think the guy who rejected my inspection is NUTS,,,,but he has the power, and I don't,,,so I have to come up with one,,,it does not have to be a 2010. It can be any license plate holder from 2010 to 2018, as long as it is F4, original MV Agusta factory part!

Presumably the top of the license plate needs to be inline with the tip of my exhaust. As you see in the photos, the top of the license plate is a good 1 to 2 inches before the tips.

Thanks for the F3 offer, but I doubt if it will work.

Hola Alfredo, are you sure it is about the tip of the exhaust. I am not sure about regulation in Spain. But it is EU. And in Germany and Italy authorities ckeck the angle of the plate. See pic. It's German, but I guess you get the idea.

Good luck, Frank

Frank and others, THANKS

Yes, I think you are probably right. It is more about the angle than it being more about the location under the exhaust. Those dimensions/degrees that you have provided helps me a LOT. The ITV inspector was actually making measurements from the bottom and the top of the plate to ground!

Cheers,

is there possibly another location you could go to and have it inspected? Maybe you'll find someone more reasonable who won't even bother with it. In Germany there are multiple institutions which each have multiple subsidiaries where you can have these checks done- maybe it's worth looking for an alternative place :D.

It's true that licence plate holders have their requirements for OEM but it's not forbidden to install an aftermarket one in EU as long as your number plate angle is correct, there is lighting (indicators + number plate lighting) and no dangerous situation can be caused.

Best of luck!

Yes, that is definitely an option. What happened on the previous Inspection (When the bike was owned by FlexiBike), they did exactly "that". The bike failed, it was then taken to another more "reasonable" station, and it was passed. The problem with that is that the inspection records show clearly that the bike failed 2 times for License plate issue. This will follow the bike every time you go to ITV,,,,,,in other words, they will always take a hard look at that.

On a positive note, I bought a used license plate holder on e-bay from Italy and license backing plate from Germany. I am not 100% sure if these parts are going to work, as they were advertised as 2009 and 2005 respectively. But, the part numbers stamped on them, is what is in my parts list for 2010 !!!

damn, in Germany the remarks only stay within the institution, so if I were to do it with the 'Tüv', only other Tüv offices could see it, but no other institution...in that case I would go to their competition who don't get access to the Tüv's remarks.

But it sounds like you have a solid plan, best of luck with the ITV, it sucks that they're so strict about cosmetic changes, would've expected it from Germans for sure but not in Spain 😅.

For what its worth, I passed the ITV last week and thought maybe some of the members (the ones in Europe) may be interested on how an EVotec compares to the original. Personally, I see no difference except for the original fixed angle of the license plate compare to the after market. Mine is a 2010 but I think it is the same for 11 and 12 as well

Para la ITV no puede ser regulable el porta matrículas , ni para la policía, tiene que ser fijo el soporte y como se pongan tontos hasta uno que sea fijo y no original te pueden obligar a homologarlo , cuanta tontería tienen….

Hola MrVicCo,

My Spanish is not very good! But I translated your response, and I have to say I agree completely. Even after I passed, and was given the ITV sticker, they seemed bewildered when I asked, "WHERE" should I attach the sticker?! His reply was "I don't know". This made me think the whole thing was a complete waste of his and my time! Not to mention 100 Euros worth of plastic license holder (lol)
