I have an old Aprilia Caponord ETV, and I love these Dakar style adventure bikes with the sit in seat and large tank. I always say they are like the swiss army knife of motorcycles because they are just so versatile. One of the reviewers compared the LXP to a sports bike on stilettos which sounds ideal for me in so far as I have always maintained you can cover many roads faster on one of these than a sports bike, particularly our typical B roads in this country, the extra ground clearance absorbing the undulations and despatching potholes without a second thought.

I am currently running in my Superveloce still on its normal pipe as the Arrow pipe requires the ECU change. It is my first bike with a quickshifter and I get a funny kind of kickback through the clutch lever on downshifts using the clutch. It's like a bit of drag at the lever when disengaging the clutch. It might be where it is all bedding in or maybe it's a quirk of quickshifters but can't see that.

So the LXP Ti pipe doesn't come with a different ECU. All the reviewers loved the sound just with the stock pipe so even better to have a bit more of the aural performance. The 931cc looks great on paper. What does the limiter come in at, I guess you haven't been there yet.

Haven’t been near the limiter yet. The engine has plenty of torque. Very smooth and linear delivery. I was actually a bit surprised how tourquey it is. Love it…

I would really like to hear how this bike holds up in the dirt.
Once you look it over you’ll quickly understand that it’s extremely well built. It has all the ingredients. Just the wheelset alone is impressive. Honestly, I didn’t buy this bike for extreme off-road. I have a Touareg for that. This bike is more my do-all, go anywhere ride. So far, every dirt and gravel road (some fairly washed out) wasn’t remotely a problem. Ride one…you see.

They were due to have 11 Nortons arrive. The driver arrived and said I’ve got 12 bikes for you. They were all perplexed, what’s the 12th bike?! Lo and behold it was the LXP.
 
The air intake, I'm assuming, dual fans, and the can are unique features esthetically.

Mine should have been ready tomorrow but apparently there are updates from the factory required, I asked what and apparently some bolts need changing?! No further info but if you've taken delivery might be worth checking if there are any outstanding updates. Should get mine in September now for the new '74' registrations in the UK.
 
Hmmm.

No user manual comes with the bike. You have to scan a QR code and create an account to download it or pay 39.50 euros if you want a printed one.

Only one Active key with the bike and one passive key as opposed to a matching pair.

Not a fan of the electronic fuel flap. Seems like a solenoid failure to pop the flap will only be a matter of time away, totally unnecessary complication.
 
Seems strange, from a liability standpoint, to not supply the printed owner manual.
I'm sure in the USA this would lead to massive lawsuits. This is why all manufacturers allow free downloads from their web sites for owner manuals going back years .......in case your used bike didn't come with it. Liability. Not Workshop Manuals...those you must pay for.
And only one key will actually start the bike ??? That's weird too. Why bother providing any spare key at all?
Surely there is a way to open the fuel lid in case of electrical failure...
I think I would send an inquiry to MV about that one.
So how is the road test ?

The annoying thing with the manual was although it was free, it wasn’t just a direct link, you had to register, you had to tick consent boxes for the usual bs, it’s just not right to have to go through more grief and data harvesting to get something that should have come with it. Also, all the error messages etc are all in German, I wasted about an hour just to get a pdf of the manual, it’s not the wonderful ownership experience it should and could have been, and something that was always such a big part of the MV ownership experience. They have got this wrong and ought to swiftly put it right imho. (I still have one box to open so if a user manual ends up in there I’ll report back with a large serving of humble pie 😂)

I will need to check on a potential override for the fuel flap, I certainly hope there is because my experience of the electric one so far is poor.

With regards to the key, I thought it odd too so I read the manual. You can’t turn ignition on with key in your pocket but there is a way to touch the transponder under the seat to passively disarm it which is something. But again, for the money, there should be two matching keys.

That’s not all either, there is lots more related to apps and services and having to sign up and consent just to have things work and it’s all buggy like we are their beta testers.

This one for example is optional but it feels very big brother which I’m not at all comfortable with and its the same road Mercedes went down.

Ps, Haven’t test ridden yet, my insurers don’t have the details on their system yet so it needs referring which might take a week or so. Also found out the LXP is limited to 100mph because of the knobblies according to the manual. This explains why there are two tyre TC settings. I guess if you select road tyres it would go faster, possibly a legal liability thing as fitted with m+s tyres!
 
I think I would contact MV directly to make a formal complaint and request correction (such as a printed manual in your language), and write a legal letter informing them you do not consent to the data harvesting.
Open the other box, and go for an uninsured ride around the neighborhood. I would.
 
To be fair, the data I posted above is an optional one so I did opt out, there is only one that is mandatory.

The dealer asked for my email to register the bike with Pierer Group. I then receive an email
asking for me to create a log in etc where my digital bike would be waiting in the garage. Again I went through the rigmarole, signed up to yet another account, the digital bike isn’t there, and again all the usual consent were required.

So now I have two accounts, one with PG one with MV, two apps (Ride and Mobisat), personally I don’t like this software IT heavy crossover with bikes. Where the Ago had a race ecu in the box, going forward it will be done by dealers with up maps according to the dealer tech.

I had high hopes for Pierer Group and on the whole think they have been doing a good job, but I do hope they don’t get all German and KTM on us with these little things because it is not just about the bike and the whole creating an account where you can pay for extea services smacks of future subscription based offerings.

I have made friends with the electrical fuel cap, it must have been stiff where it is new, it is loosening up after quite a few goes and is working ok now.

I couldn’t find any mechanical override for it in the instructions, I still think it’s not a great idea over a key fuel cap but its there so fingers crossed it proves reliable!
