Hi Guys


Is anyone going to the Italian round of the WSBK at Imola ?..


Me and some friends will be going this year, and will be staying at the hotel Zio in the old town.. We're calling this trip " The Pacemaker Tour", as the total years of age of the guys going ( eight, including myself) is 542 years.. :smile2:.. The running joke down the pub is, we're taking a sweepstake on who's going back to the UK in the cargo hold next to his luggage.. Don't worry, its British humour and all in good fun.


If anyone's going and wants to join us for a meal in the evening, then please send me a PM..


I'll take some pictures of the event and post them on this thread on my return..


Hope to see some of our Italian forum friends there..

I would fly over but if I am going to spend a bunch of money to go to Italy again it would have to be for a MotoGP race

We're not going just for the event, we're going for the venue.. Imola is a wonderful old historical town and a great place to visit if you've never been.. It's one of those bucket list European race circuits that all petrol heads should visit.. We wouldn't care if they were holding a scooter rally meeting there instead of the WSBK round, we'd still go. We've been to Imola twice for classic bike race meetings, but this time we'd thought we'd experience the WSBK round for a change.


Our trip inventory includes a visit to the newly refurbished Ducati museum in Bologna, the Università di Bologna which is the oldest university in the world in continuous use, the museo Ferrari in Maranello and Modena and lastly the WSBK round at Imola.. That's enough for 8 old farts..


Flights with Ryanair was £42 each, the hotel stay at The Zio was £108 each and the track grand stand tickets was £28 each ( special local rate through a friend in Italy) .. Museum entrance tickets, we pay at the door on the day .. food and drink expense ??? .. All in all a cheap holiday at amazing venues. CAN'T WAIT..:grin2:


There's a few must see historical European race circuits car and bike fans should try and visit.. Spa Francorchamps, Monza ( which is my all time favourite) , Imola, Brooklands ( what's left of it :wink2, Monaco, Nurburging , and Brands Hatch. I know there are other great European tracks that I've not listed , but apart from Brands Hatch, the others in my list are situated in nice locations..

JDS, I would come down to join you but I'll be away that weekend. Agreed that Imola is something special, I caught WSBK there last year and it was fantastic. Sounds like you guys quite the itinerary planned. Enjoy yourselves!

I've been twice to Imola and both times was for the classic 200 Miglia di Imola Revival ( The first two years when the meeting was attended by The Good & The Great ).. Fantastic time and wonderful memories of Imola.. The first time I went to Imola I paid my respects to one of my heros, Senna at his memorial.. Very touching the first time you see the memorial..

I'm really looking forward to this trip and the Ducati fans at the Variante Bassa grandstand :wink2:.. I'll probably eat to much Gelato whist there and we've pre-booked a table for our group at the San Domenico and my favorite restaurant The Osteria del Teatro..

Can't wait and only another 24 hours to take-off.
