Wouldn't it just pop out. Then fit the new one like a welsh plug?

cheers,

Nope, it fits into grooves in the cases, other side of that is your crank.

leaky bitch?

FOIB;
download the engine manual from Donsy.....

on page B78 is the info
retorque the case bolts.......no way it should be leaking

yes, you have to drop the oil pan

bet you have low oil pressure:jsm:

if after torquing it correctly, it still leaks, clean it with lacquer thinner and seal it with RTV

I moved the thread to the maint section, it is a good question you ask Joe.
I had a fairing fastener almost go through one of these on my bike during one of my little incidents, actually it looked like it was about to push it into the engine.

Those half moons, and the round plug on the cases, are where the tool that line bores the cam journals and main crank journals comes in to do its job.....no way around it. Many engines have a similar end plug on the cases, many have another component in that space, such as primary drive gear or alternator rotor. Almost all overhead cam engines have the half moons.
