i know many people will think the 916 had it. that bike started production in 1994 (iirc).

but the honda NR 750 had it too, and that was made from 1992 to 1994.

what there something before that?

I understand the first bike with an underseat was some Honda prototype from the '70s. Will see what I can find out.

The NR would still qualify. Along with being the first, and only bike with oval pistons and all sorts of other stuff. Honda threw down the gauntlet with that bike and said we have the best motorcycle technology in the world. There still has not been an answer to it...

The original design of the Bimota SB2 and the first prototypes had high under seat exhausts.....

The under seat exhaust idea was not used in the production bikes due to a few complication in the design....like managing the heat from the under seat pipes...

If you look at the photos of any Bimota Production SB2.....you see where the two large round rear turn signal lens are.....that is where the exhaust pipes were designed to exit....

When they at the late minute decided to go with the low exhaust pipes on the production SB2....they kept the seat unchanged, and simply found round turn signals to mount in the holes where the exhaust was ment to go....

You can find photos of the prototype and this story in the book by Giorgio Sarti titled "Bimota 25 years of excellence"
