I've stripped the 1000S forks to fit new seals and checked the steering head bearings as well. One of the races has some light marks on so it is time for a set of taper rollers.

The bearings themselves should be easy enough to find but are the seals a generic item or common with any Ducatis? Its not clear from the searches I've done and either of these options will be faster than sourcing genuine.

Thanks.

Donsy, are you sure the bearings are 35x55x14, because I've searched all over this forum and everybody mentioned 35x55x15 bearing size?:wtf:
I've bought the AllBalls kit #22-1039, as mentioned in other thread here, and found out the bearings were 35x55x14 size. I asked about it on that thread (http://www.mvagusta.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30286&page=2) but, since I didn't get any replies, I sold the kit a few weeks ago.:bawling:

Cheers,
Laur.

Sorry I didn't see your question on that thread Laur.
Something pretty unusual going on with this bearing, if you Google the part number, in some Countries it comes up with a x15 bearing, and in other as a x14, I sue the X14 in both my steering head kits though.

Here is the link to the steering head bearing list on the Pyramid Parts site. There is no bearings for MV listed in the parts search.

http://www.pyramidparts.co.nz/pages/steering-head-bearings

BR36 looks like the correct kit albeit with the 15mm wide bearings. It cross references to 22-1031 and 22-1039 which are Allballs numbers and, at a quick glance, are used in a range of big bikes (incl Hondas, Kawasakis and Ducatis).

Ill check with Pyramid tomorrow as to whether the kit includes the seals and if they are aware of it being used in MVs.

It might be a matter of test fitting the lower outer race, inner bearing and seal (without fitting them to the steering stem) to ensure the seal locates in the correct position in the bottom of the steering head to maintain the steering geometry. If the bearing is too narrow a spacer would fix it. The top bearing won't be as critical.

Did I see a Honda part number for the seals somewhere on the site?
