So, Im planning on re-greasing my steering head bearings.

Any tips on how to support the front of the bike while lowering the tripple clamp?

Ive got the following stands

SS Paddock stand
Foot peg stands
Fork lift stand (wont help as Im trying to lower the tripple clamp)
Fork leg stand (as above)

How does everyone else do it? A block underneath the motor?

Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Check if there's no way for you to run a tube through the bike near the front, with your footpeg stands on either side.
Otherwise, look in my photo album, I used to put two simple and cheap car jack stands under the motor, one on either side. Crank case bolts are a good spot for support.

?

do you have anything overhead you can use?

if so you can use:

2 "soft ties" looped together and passed behind the steering head

hook a tie down through the loops of the soft ties

hook the tie down to a "come along"

fasten the come along to your overhead support

use a rear stand.....the bike CAN NOT FALL

I have seen too many fall off jack stands

I agree Noel, when I use the Jake stands, I still use the rear stand too, it's a great stabiliser. Overhead support is unforetunetly not an option for me :)

AS others have said, I usually find an overhead point and use soft-ties and straps to hold the front of the bike up.

Bursig/Motomfg

I know you don't have one, but they are fab for this sort of thing.
Nice to have, but wayy too much money to import just to do the head bearings.

Ive gotten away with just the footpeg stands and headlift stand for now...
