I was on my way home and as I was pulling a way from a stop light and disaster struck. I went to take off and immediately felt the wheel loose grip and smoke bellowing out of the engine. I gained control of the bike and shut down the engine down. I pushed it off to the side of the road and inspected. Oil was everywhere: rear wheel, exhaust, engine, radiator and the road. I quickly realized it was dripping out of the nut on the end of the K&N oil filter. It was confirmed when we started the bike and oil shot out of all the spot welds on the nut at the end of the K&N filter. I cleaned everything and installed a new purolator and added some oil and the Brut was back on the road. I was minutes from entering the highway where I am sure it could have been a lot worse.

Insane that K&N is allowed to sell such a dangerous product. I called my brother and he told me that he has one installed in his bike currently. I sent him a video. He then sent out a blast e-mail and sure enough so did a bunch of other riders in stalled K&N oil filters. All of them after seeing my video where changing their oil filters ASAP. Most of them are like me, we all use K&N air and oil filters for our cars and trucks. I didn't give the oil filter a second thought for the motorcycle. First thing I looked for was a K&N air filter for my bike. I had to buy a DNA filter. I tell you right now I will never use a K&N product again. I grew up on K&N products.

My brother ask me what filter I am going to use. I told him Purolator and he replied Purolator?! Aren't those crap, well then again I would have told you K&N.

Independent thought and research is difficult for some. In this day and age of GOOGLE, all things can be known quite quickly.

Just search for oil filter testing and you'll see who comes out on top during independent tests.

This happened to me last year and the one good thing about KnN is that they have a guarantee. I got a Hiflo and an oil change paid for by KnN. If the motor would have been damaged they would have got the bill for that too.
