Hi Guys - I'm a new member here and a soon-to-be owner(not finalized yet but almost - the hold-up is me at this point) of a 2005 Brutale 750 - 3700miles, recent service, never dropped, mint cond, completely stock, black. The guy is in a bit of a jam, needs to sell and is giving me the bike for 7K. A couple of questions for you guys, first, is this an excellent deal, fair, etc? Second, are there specific questions(to this bike) I should be asking, outside the obvious ones? Lastly, the bike is free of decals/stickers and when I inquired he said that 7-8 months after purchase, they began to peel up on the ends, so he removed them. He said he went back to where he purchaed the bike, they said there have been a few others with this issue but Agusta wouldn't take care of it. Has anyone experienced similiar issues? Thanks in advance for helping me out.

No Decals?.... did he repaint? ask him if would object to a pre sale inspection at a MV dealer. If he gave you the run around and refuse to do it... perhaps there's another story.

The decals are under the matte-coat finish, and will not peel up. They would leave their shape behind if removed.
That, in addition to the extremely low price suggest something is fishy here.

thank you both for the replies... I will discuss the appearance of the bike if it's lacking decales and suggest a presale inspection. Anything else you can think of?

I agree with everyone else that the decal story is fishy. Also the mat black on the brutale is not the same as the mat black on the SPR (2004) or the mat black on the 2006 F4 1000. Little things to look for that would indicate the bike has been in an accident? Scuffed bar ends. Discoloration on the side plates behind the shifter and rear brake lever. Look under the top triple clamp. You should see small brass nubs extending up from the clipons into holes on the underside of the triple clamp. If the nubs are missing or bent, the bike has probably been hit.

I disagree that the price is way too cheap. I believe it is low, but it is not a steal.

You could also try calling his bluff about a wreck and see if you can't get some more cash knocked off of the bike, you know?

You can also check all over the fork tubes for any minor looking scrapes. If there are scrapes parallel with the ground, then it means the bike has high-sided at speed.

An example: the previous owner of my bike drove it under a car and it only has a few minor scrapes on the tubes and a dink here and there.

If it has frame sliders, see if you can't take them off and look behind them for any abnormalities, like rust or a different bolt.

Yes, does seem a little strange, no decals? Maybe a respray which leads me to think, has it been in an accident? Just do some basic investigation. Do a check on the bike. Has it been written off at any time? IF YOUR GUT FEELING SAYS LEAVE IT ALONE, THEN LISTEN! Motorbikes are a bit lile buses, there will be another one along shortly! Anyhow, welcome to the forum. thanks for the additional comments, guys. Due to these, I will certainly look further into the lack of decals issue. It was a minor question mark initially but now I see there is likely more to the story - I will ask more probing questions - glad I came to the forum.

one more thing, if the bike has indeed been repainted or laid down, but looks as new, how much does this decrease the value of the bike? Is 7K now not a good deal, in such a case?

When you say laid down, do you mean the bikes gone down the road? Check the frame to see if its bent. Don't forget, its your life. Do an insurance check
