The helmet thread in General Talk forum made me want to share this. There are a few of you on here that have seen the crash video. Unfortunately I have not received my copy of it yet. Once I do, I will be sure to share.

I had a nasty high side last year at the Motorsport Ranch in Cresson, TX. I was taking a class from Ty Howard, and went down on one of the fairly high speed corners. For those familiar with MSR, it was the left hander right before Big Bend when run counter clockwise. Ty had a camera on his bike, so I got to see the crash at least 100 times.

When I went down, I landed vertically. Unfortunately it was vertically on my head. I then went into the coolest back flips that I have ever seen. Speed was around 100 mph. We later measured my tumble distance, and it was 268 ft.

I was wearing MotoGP kangaroo leathers, Alpinestar boots and gloves, and the Shark helmet.

All of the gear performed as expected, but the Shark helmet was what saved my life. Here are a few pics of the helmet. I post this because I have not seen a lot of info on how Sharks hold up in a crash.

That will EASILY buff out...Sorry, old joke 'round these parts...

That sounds horrible...What if any injuries did you sustain? What were you riding?

I hope all is well now, that looks and sounds to be quite the dinger!

I was on an '07 R6. I did not break any bones, but took a marble sized chunk out of my tongue. I was bruised from head to toe. I was VERY lucky to have walked away. The bike was a pretzel.

Wow! Forward the writeup to Shark customer service along with the pictures, i'm sure they will be happy to know that their helmets are appreciated! I'm really glad you walked out of it, I guess these are the risks that we have to take for our passion! Look at the bright side of things though! At least now you have a REALLY cool video to show to your friends and to the ladies:p

Wow .... a marble size chunk out of your tongue? That must have bled a lot. How do you treat a wound like that and did your tongue eventually adapt to having the missing chunk ? Glad you walked away from that. You should forward the video clip to Shark .... you may become their "poster boy" ... who knows? It might lead to a helmet endorsement deal for you!

I still have yet to see the video!
Ty still has it. I'll get a copy next time I see him. I plan on taking another class from him when he has time, so I should be able to get it then.

Thanks for the report. I just ordered my first RSR2 and, even though I never plan on finding its crash capabilities, it's nice to know that it works.

Dude, the thing about these situations is that they never come pre-planned!:p

The tongue did bleed like crazy. It healed amazingly fast, and I could eat solid foods after about a week. There is a little indentation there now but that is it. It hurt like hell, and the salt water the doc made me gargle made it even worse.
