I went for a night ride yesterday... and was pretty happy with the lights.

the only thing was that I had to switch to high beam when in twisties...


Gotta get rid of the chicken strips!!!!

yes.... those chicken strips
had them ALL the way off my R1200GS in 2 weeks...
i need to find time to ride the 1.5 hours NORTH to get to the roads with curves (this IS florida, of course)

Agreed on the HID lights. I've heard good things about them. I haven't done this, but I also don't ride at night normally (especially outside the city, mostly because it takes so damn long to get outside the city!!)

I was wondering what the deal is on the lean factor for a Brutale. I've noticed at least on the street the bike does not have to be leaned over as far as any other bike I've ridden, mostly Ducs but also some Japanese bikes. The turn in on the shorter than average chassis is part of it. Guys, this is a good thing so trying to get rid of chicken strips will not buy you more corner speed or sharper entry IMHO. Also ran into an SPR rider last weekend at VIR and he had the same impression, even on the track.

I am still working on figuring this one out...here is what I can see so far.

1. turn in is excellent on Brutale but
2. it almost forces you to ride the bike Motard style... not knee dragging style...
3. I will definetly take Brutale to the track and see how the lap times compare... but I need to complete the break in first.

Chicken strips have more to do with the tire profile than the bike!

When I use a 190/50 rear, I find the edge sooner and much easier....sometimes to soon.

When using a 180/55, the tire looks like it hasn't even been on it's side, but in fact it has. It has more contact area because it's rounder with a taller profile.

The new 190/55 profile that the 910R is using mimics the 180/55 more than it does the 190/50.

So even if you do get the 910R way over, the chicken strips won't be a good indication of how far.... cause there's always a little more left on a 55 series tire!

Wait, I thought we were talking about headlights.... :nutkick:

As far as lights, bulbs won't help, maybe a set of Piaas (sp) mounted on the fork lowers like a BMW? Alternator should handle that.

And as far as chicken strips, you can have your strips fried if you go to a track!! On the street, my strips were non existant, just not as knarley!! :naughty:

Try leaning more!! :stickpoke

I don't know about the charging system and HID. I'm considering ordering the setup from MVf4 when Diego gets them back in stock. I still wonder if he posted the right price, but he didn't answer in the negative when I asked him about it.

In the meantime I am running a 55W Phillips Vision Plus lamp on the low beam. It is noticeably different than stock, throwing a slightly wider pattern and seeming to illuminate a little farther down the road. It gives the appearance of being slightly brighter, but since it's the same wattage and I haven't done any lumen testing I have to assume it's just a perceptual thing.

I'm still considering rewiring to have both bulbs on when I switch to the high beam, but haven't found clear enough directions for a non electrician, like myself, to follow.

i'll be VERY interested in improving the night time VIEW from the cockpit as soon as i can find a safe and viable and bike-safe option

as i've said before, i do a LOT of riding at night (often seems to be the only time that i can find a chance to go)
