I decided to put together a list after searching this forum and the internet for a few days for F3 parts. This is just the basics of what a race/track bike would need at least for me. Can anyone start filling in the missing URL's. I would like to build a F3 for next season and race it in the AMA (new 2015 rules are not yet out (consolidation of DSB and SS) and could affect the remaining build so I will stick to SS build list for now).

Hey,

I converted my bike over to a race bike at the beginning of this year, so have been down the road you're going on now. The bodywork I used was from Bikesplast because they are the only company I found that makes a superbike tail section - this to me was critical in opening up the riding position on the F3 which is cramped - the stock seat slides you forward into the tank and too much energy was used to keep my ass back. The superbike tail made all the difference. For me there is no going back to a OEM seat, but we're all different.

CVMA does not allow us to change the forks, only the internals, so I went with these:

So far I've been really happy with the added front end feel and performance.

I went with the Ohlins steering Damper - hard to beat this one and it really completely eliminated all the head shake when the front end got light powering out of corners:

I also put the same monoblock calipers that are on the 800 on the bike. The change in breaking was startling to say the least.

For the exhaust I went with the HP Course, It's a RACE ONLY exhaust. While it looses the look of the triple pipe, I was more interested in performance and weight savings (both of which are significent).

Rearsets I went with Rizoma - I like rizoma and have never had problems with them. Mine are GP shift and work with the stock sensor with one small modification - see the new hole drilled and tapped where I'm pointing.

I also put a slipper clutch in and this was a game changer for trail breaking, and general corner entry control.

I also changed my levers for these so I'd have adjustable folding levers:

I also changed the gearing from the stock 16T/43T to 15T-41T and a 520 chain. This gave me more bottom end coming out of corners. Most of the tracks I go to do not have high top end straights (I never hit 6th) so I wanted more umph in 3rd so I would short shift less often from corner exit in 2nd to 3 to 4th and back down. This way I'm corner exiting most of the time in 3rd, go to 4th and then back down.

Wish I could like your post 1000 times over Corran. Sorry to thread jack but how did you like the fitment of the new fairings? My 800 is about to see a set and I've looked at those and at 6'2" I would welcome a tad more room to tuck and move my rear back. Also I've settled on the HP exhaust but when on their website I noticed there was not a full titanium system for the race version at least that my tired eyes couldn't see. I'm currently searching for a few of these parts, namely a good sprocket carrier and a non aluminum sprocket set :(

We've got 6 more track weekends left this season before we are setup for WERA next year.

The fit of the fairings is good. I've never seen race fairings that fit perfectly and there is ultimately a little play in one spot somewhere but overall very good. Were also experimenting now with a new material with bikes plata to make the fairings stronger for the same weight and similar price. We'll see if that works out. But the super bike seat (from bikesplast - I can't say for any other designs from others) is a significant improvement over the oem seat. I highly recommend it because it takes out that crossed up feeling you get from the oem seat.

I know WERW rules are a little different from CVMA - WERA allows more bike modifications so you can also do more suspension work on the bike.

I have not had the bike noise tested. The only track that requires it is Laguna Seca. Not sure what I'll do when I go there :).

Design corse has some special bits and bobs that are not listed on the website. You just need to ask al by email.

Yea Corran I've checked with the restrictions for suspension. Thankfully I will be able to swap out but I will be picking up the Bitubo carts and pneumatic preload rear. I actually got a chance last weekend to ride, setup a set and examine it pretty well. After riding on full Ohlins, Traxxion, and Penske I was anxious to see the difference.

As far as the exhaust I'm stuck with a DB limit of 132db for several tracks which in fairly confident I can get away with being an 800cc setup and I can modify a DB killer if needed but I'm extremely interested in the HP Corse full system as they have the best designed header out ATM that is readily available.

I would hit up Motomummy or Brad at Superbikesupply for the PCV. You can get it from them for under half that price you have shown. MotovationUSA sells MV Agusta parts and carries Arrow exhaust systems as well as Rizoma parts. I also got my Cox guard for my CBR from Brad at Superbikesupply. He doesn't typically carry MV parts but he might be able to get you one for a better price. GP Racing is one of the site vendors that is located in the US (www.gutsyperformance.com) and carries MV parts as well.

Did you try the Ohlins 30mm front and TTX rear? Did you like the Bitubo carts and shock better? What Bitubo shock model did you try? The problem is vendor support track side for tuning Bitubo.

After riding on full Ohlins, Traxxion, and Penske I was anxious to see the difference.

They only carry the "Race-Tech Exhaust Slipon by Arrow". I am looking for full systems.

Keep the info coming this is good stuff. I am going to make some calls to people I know to see what I can get for an F3.

I just did another search and it looks like Orient Express carries K-Tech suspension and GP racing covers for the F3. www.orientexpress.com

Yeah I'm not sure what the DB output is... I've never had it checked. Laguna Secca is the only track I'm worried about...

Xn85, you will find that the Bitubo is not as much of a tuner required suspension as the Ohlins. After attending a few suspension classes and one taught by Max McAllister himself I'm confident in my ability to interpret what my bike or another rider tells me their bike is doing. Once I have established their static sag and rider sag I listen to their input and concerns, wants and needs. If I'm unable to get the appropriate sag I swap only springs and start from there. After this is done I send them around the track or a section of road/course around here and they come right back and inform me up the details, front washing out, rough ride, getting knocked off the seat etc. it typically takes 2-3 runs to get it fairly well dialed in. This is with Ohlins and Traxxion.

What I've seen with Bitubo with their ease of adjustment you can change on he bike with your gloves on this is amazing and I can think of at least 5 times where I would have wanted to add compression or change rebound out on the track when I had a free second. The Valving felt increasingly responsive and consistent to my liking. I'm pretty much sold on the setup to run and try on my own now.

Just going to make more paperwork for me at the track since I'll be keeping documentation on a Marzoochi setup, Traxxion setup and finally my Bitubo suspension. That little info book is growing by the day for what we run at each track.

Where are you purchasing your suspension from. I presume you are answering for the F3 and not in general with other bikes correct?

Everything on this forum I keep restricted to F3 since those are the only MV's I deal with ATM. As far as purchasing the suspension I'll be calling Bellisimoto and DesignCorse to see who is cheaper as I need a few other things as well.

And if it's a crapshoot on the suspension at least we will have someone who has taken it out and beaten hard on it and gotten good data from it.

I am looking to build an F3 675 to compete at the pro level, not just a typical trackday or club race. The problem is USA support and the lack of dealers and aftermarket products.

In all honesty, I recon that you'd be fighting a lonely battle for some time to came, and wish you all the luck in the world.
Have you tried contacting the guys in other Country's who's already had podium success and have won National titles, like the South Africans ...?

I would contact Bitubo for suspension, they ran the F3 right upto when the team went back to being MV owned this year, they would have some good info. And although trackside assistance might not be great, most suspension guys can work on "other" brands than just Ohlins.

Hey Donsy,

I am still riding the tried and true F4 1000. With work and some family stuff going on the last few years I haven't been on the board much or been riding. I went out with Style_one from here to a track in NJ and we are trying to do a couple more before the year is over.

You might be a great person to ask with all your track experience with a 1000 MV, what would you recommend for track only tires that would last me 4 to 5 track days. I use warmers to try and make them last a little longer.

I hope you have been great down under and I always love to see your racing threads!
