Thanks to Altoon's thread about race bodies, I realize that many MV owners here are track enthusiast, and it makes perfect sense to have an extra set of track wear of our bikes so we don't have to risk damaging the expensive OEM bodies... so I did a little surfing on the net, visiting websites of well advertised race body makers here in the North America to see what our options are:

Unfortunately only 2 out of 11 of them makes racing bodies for MV F4! :shocker: only OPP and Sharkskinz.

I think it's time to bombard the rest of them with request to producing race bodies for F4, and maybe, just maybe if we bother them enough they will listen to us?

Please feel free to add more to the list, especially European makers. :)

yeah, sharkskinz are well regarded. if i go forward with this, they are my top choice.

but i'm going to see if i can work another angle on this. maybe make a trade with one of the other companies - they can use the bodwork on my F4 for a mold in exchange for a deal of some kind on the plasitc.

well, i just talked with catalyst racing. the want to offer plastic for the mv, and i want to help them.

ony one problem. to make the molds, the like to use "rashed" bodywork. turns out they will pretty much destroy the original plastic to make the molds.

again, i want to help, but i don't want to help them THAT much!

so, it's either i find some plastic for them that's been through the mill, or i get the sharkskinz stuff.

I've got SharkSkinz. They were made from the bodywork from my bike and enlarged a bit around the exhaust portion to prevent burn through.

Don't forget e-moto offers replacement panels which seem reasonable.

Get two sets from them then.....maybe they'll do that since you don't get your oem ones back?

yeah, the actually told me they'd give me 3 sets, since the F4 is such a rare bike for them.

No idea why they say they would destroy the OEM fairings. There is no reason they would get damaged if they took care with them.

I am trying out some different pattern makers again and may very well be making glass and carbon parts again very soon. Oh the frustration will begin all over again :bash:

Will let you know how it all goes.

Track fairings for the Brutale:

Interesting idea, only problem would be the mountings for side panels and a frame would have to be costructed, we will have a think about it.

For the SV650S there is a full set of race fairings available (make it look like a sports bikes), the bonus with the SV is the current mountings for the bikini fairing.

Recall seeing a few months back a large front nose fairing for the Brutale..

The large fron fairing was some show in Japan if I recall...some generic "america" version...

As for mounting, you could always use the hole where the frame sliders go as a mounting point. You could also make a little clamp that tightens to the frame like a hose clamp:

But imagine each has a bracket with a hole where the fairings can dzus to. This way, if you have frame sliders (why wouldn't you on a track bike), you don't rely on that frame hole.

even with three sets, it's still comes out as a loss, i think.
that's like $3k, retail. and the oem plastic is probably more like $4k. a single mid is $750.

i'll probably just get the sharkskinz.

Sounds like the best solution... please post picture and report on the Sharkskinz fairing when you get them, thanks.

But once painted, and if it fits like OEM (you will have the 1st molds..i.e, fresh molds), what's the difference? Nobody will know it's NOT OEM except you...especially if the fit is good.

And 3 sets of plastics, aside from sheer amount of plastics you have(so sweet)...you go down ONCE on OEM, you're screwed. You can go down 3 times on these plastics

it's true that i would have a ton of plastic if i got 3 sets from catalyst. but if i ever decide to sell the bike, i need to have the OEM's on there. that gives me the best resale value. a stock bike always seems to get the best price.

so my plan is to keep the OEM stuff, and use it on the street. then swap the race bodywork on there for track days, or (if i get really stupid) some club racing.

that way i can feel a little more relaxed at the track and be more comfortable pushing this bike harder.
