Hey Guys,
Currently fixing up my Brutale. I have scored a secondhand dash but i am having issues programming the keys to the dash. I have the key card and have tried following the manual with entering the 5 digit code on the scratch off section but it continually comes up with invalid code. Ive checked the wiring on the immobiliser reader and it all appears OK. Any other ideas?
Talking to the OEM apparently you can only program a new dash to an existing set of keys. Once a dash is programmed to a pin code it's locked in. I'd love to know if that's correct! I scored this dash for $300 vs $1600 for a new one.
For any poor soul who has found this thread. It has been confirmed by the factory that only virgin/ new gauges can be coded to existing key sets using the code. Once the pin code is entered it is hard programmed into the immobiliser and unable to be recoded again. You are also able to program new virgin keys with the same process. The key is blank and once the pin code is entered into the display it is hard coded into the key chip.
Hi all, glad i caught this thread, I have been looking into this for my project. I contacted Carmo, they can retrieve code from existing dash but apparrantly cannot code existing keyset to dash? they quoted me approx €250 to retrieve the stored code and check/reset mileage to match my bike (used salvaged 2011 F4 clockset). I was going to order full new lockset with new keycard but it seems this wont work. Anyone got 'dealer software' or can ecu studio access the code info?
Good find! It's easy enough once you have the code to just buy new keys and get them coded. But for me the price of sending to Carmo plus the cost of the second hand unit and a set of new keys is only a hundred or so from buying a new one from Star twin.
all i know is you can program a new dash to existing key. not the other way round.
But if you buy a 2nd hand dash you must get both key and card key should then work.
If that all fails. Then try having same dash+key+ecu.

It’s also possible to swap the relevant chip set from your original dash to your replacement unit. Done a few both B4 and gen 2 F4. Rework station is handy. Then you keep your original key. Although milages can be effected.
Farshore, is it possibble te replace the pic chip with a new blank one on a used dash and reprogram a new code to it to allow new keys to be programmed?
For privacy and safety reasons, only the final customer gets the code card at the delivery of the bike and also the double key (on the card you have a band to scratch that hides the secret key code for the immobilizer).
If you cannot find the code card, you cannot have a double key replacement (because you cannot insert the code into the immobilizer system), and so you will need to order though your authorized MV Agusta dealer new key locks set, new keys for the new key locks and of course a new code card.
I just went through this headache for a 2010 Brutale. Bought a bike with only one working black key, looked to get a full set (ie red plus spare black), going with the Carmo route.
Not wanting to be without the dash and key for >2 weeks, I found an eBay Brutale dash without keys, duly purchased it and sent it off. Carmo returned saying it couldn't be done as the unit was previously bricked. They also said MV are notoriously finicky...
Ended up sending my original dash and key anyway and all they did was copy my working key (ie dash not needed)!
TLDR, should've just sent them my working key to copy!
Be aware the Carmo option uses el cheapo non OEM shaped Chinese keys. If I had to do it over I would've bought the OEM from StarTwin or GP (Alex is showing some stock) and sent it to them to copy. Carmo don't cut the keys so factor this into your price too.
If you need a new dash and buy a 2nd hand one, with a code already in it, is it not possible to get a new blank key, code it to the dash and then just leave it hidden say under the dash to make the dash happy when you turn the ignition with the original key (now not code matching to the "new" dash). Then you wouldnt need to get the new key "cut" and you wouldnt need to change all your locks either?
Next question, will the ECU be happy with a "new" dash that has a "new" code in it?

Hey mate,
The encoder is in the key surround. I cant see what your saying is any easier than just getting a blank key from MV getting it cut to suit the existing lock set and programming it with the new dash. Thats pretty much as straight forward as you can get if you have the code. The issue is most 2nd hand dashs don't come with the code card and/or key set so they are practically useless unless you send them away and get them reflashed/ code recorded.
Hy guys, any one figured out this dash problem? I have an mv augusta 1090 , 2012 and dont recognize the key anymore, if i enter the code starts and works normaly, i bought a new ecu with keys, problem not solved, the immo file is in dash,i have a guy here that can read this dash, can make key for it, but he said mine is everything ok with it, and is a software problem, any one has read this dash? Has any one a file from this dash?
The keys are liked to the dash not the ECU.
The ECU has nothing to do with success.
There are several threads dealing with this but it boils down to a new dash can be coded to old keys, a new dash to new keys.
Yes, i found that ecu has nothing to do with immo, with a price of an ecu and 2 keys, so now i have 2 ecu,s 4 keys, and one defective dash and one non working bike
