G'day,

I recently installed a Healtech quick shifter on the 1078. This unit has a harness that connects to the fuel injectors. To cut a long story short it didn't work as according to Healtech tech support no 2 MV's wiring harnesses are alike and they indicated a harness for a Triumph is the go. Seemed to run ok with the supplied harness connected. Removed the harness to ship it back and it ran like a hairy dog. Stripped it again this morning and checked everything. 'O' rings on the injectors all looked good and everything was seated properly. Started her up and she ran terrible. Let her idle for a while and it seemed to come good. However when I went to go for a test ride it was running shit again.

So my question is: - what are the chances that an injector has failed? Bike has 40 000k up. I first thought there must be an air leak somewhere but as I said everything is seated and the 'o' rings look good. If it is an injector what type/number are they and do all Brutales run the same ones? I take it they can be tested by a bike shop or injector specialist?

It's more likely related to the work that was done.

That being said, you should have a fuel injection specialist that can test your injectors.

1st inspect the injectors......the connection is VERY FRAGILE, if you're not careful you can break the injector....
inspect all the new connections ....
it's probably something with the installation of the QS :wink2:

I heard that from a mate who had 3 or 4 broken by a dealer on his F4. That's before they dropped it off a workstand and wrote it off. So I was extra careful. Pulled it all apart again and cleaned all the connections. I had put dialectric grease on the plugs but cleaned it all off. Replaced all the injector o-rings too. Don't think they were the problem but changed them anyway. It's come good again and is running fine so it was tgo do with the QS. Now I just have to get the correct harness and try again. Those injector plugs are a pain. The only way I could get them apart was to remove the clip. Buggered if I could separatre the plug by pressing the clip or anything else. If there's a trick let me know.

The clips go on from the top, so you can press them down into the semicircle on the top of the plug
remove the fuel rail 1st

That's what I thought. I'll post a photo when I fit the new harness but mine don't have semi circles or anything else to push the clip down into.

Hey Deano..

I see you removed the di electric grease...good move !

I once stopped my F4 indicators working perfectly by coating the bullet pin connectors with di-electric grease.
My buddy who is an electrician, cleaned the grease off the pins with WD40...and hey presto we had lights again.
Di-electric grease is an insulator.

I dont like it on certain connectors and would be sparing with it..It has its uses but some connectors are isolated by it.

Just my take...

What's with the fetish that Europeans have with WD-40?????

It didn't fix anything!!!!! tweaking the 6mm mounting screws of an F4 front end does 99% of the time
It takes 2,150g to depress one of the F4 turn indicator buttons.....
you think that might PUSH THROUGH THE DIELECTRIC GREASE???????
Just maybe???

I have ZERO ELECTRICAL ISSUES ON MY VEHICLES ..... I have always used Dielectric grease on all electrical
connections including my '66 Chevy that has never been in a garage...... it's parking spot is 300m from the
Pacific Ocean

Dielectric grease is a corrosion inhibitor..... sounds like what you'd want doesn't it?

Deano if you ever need some injectors give me a bell ,think i have 3 from my first Throttle bodies ,but i think that was not your problem ,seems you have it sorted.

I agree totally with you that di-electric has it's applications...The bullet pin connectors indicator on the F4 are pretty crappy though and unlike Lucar connectors don't spring contact with pressure,,The pin just sits in a little sea of di electric...Happily isolated from the world....

Better check your connectors..... they are spring loaded plungers with the wire attached to the back
got a pair here on my desk

Eddy, you're a good man. I'll keep you in mind if I ever do. Good to have access to one or two just for elimination purposes.

I am familiar with the little suckers Noel..I once had an interesting hour retrieving one of those clips from the depths of the crankcase...Outside fortunately !..

Finally received the correct harness for the quickshifter and every thing seems to be working ok. Noel, see the attached photos of my injector plugs and one from the new harness. I think that's the type you're talking about but definitely not standard on mine. Clip needs prising off mine to separate the plug. As I said a pain in the arse.

never seen any like that ..... every injector plug I've ever seen has a cutout in the body so you can press the center of the clip down, lifting the legs
learn something new everyday:wink2:
