I understand that a black engine does not necessarily mean Euro 4, although obviously if it is a late enough model it almost certainly is, but the only sure way is the VIN. I do not recall what numbers are post Euro 3.

I dug around on here and the suggestion was anything built after 2017 (I think). I can’t recall the details as I only wanted to know yes or no for the bike I was looking at.

The VIN or other numbers are basically not needed for identification:

  • Short curved pipes = E3 first gen
  • Short cuved pipes and LED taillight = E3 update 2015 (Black engine)
  • Long straight round pipes connected to pillion pegs = E4
  • Long straight edged pipes = E5

I thougth on the RC-version the stock exhaust always was replaced by a ? Project-SC. So the exhaust is not realy helpfull in this case.
