Italian Police actually own 2 of them and are based in Rome. They are used to patrol main highways from Milan to Salerno and to provide quick transportation for medical supplies when needed, but most of their time is spent in "marketing" :)
The Gallardo is shown in any occasion when there is some exibition in which Italian Police has a role or some celebrities are visiting Rome or some Police sites. Usually the guy who drives the car has as partner in those occasions not the other man you see in first images but a very beautiful blonde that I always thought was a model and not a policewoman!

I've seen the cars quite often and sat on one of them... BTW, I'm not a policeman but work for Italian 'Polizia Scientifica' (sort of CSI) as a computer specialist consultant (mainly on AFIS) and Gallardo are often hosted in same site where I work.
