NOOB Question On RPMs

327 Views 13 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  revhead1957
So I am coming off of V twins that like to ride at much lower RPMS than these 3 cylinders. So my question is simply what RPMs do these bikes like to run at? So far to me it seems like just chilling and cruising the bike likes 6 to 7k and really is not happy at 4k or below. Is that a fair assessment? Mainly I am trying to make sure I am just not driving it around in a low gear when I should be upshifting.

I think an exhaust will be next for me the stock is not bad but I want louder!

Thanks for any input guys.

Yes...higher rpms than your twins. Ride it in the rpm range where she feels happy. Probably 6k +

RPMs ?? Rounds Per MInute(s)??
Revolutions Per Minute

I was being facetious.
The “S” makes it a plural of a plural.
Common grammatical error.

Revolutionss?
I have been quite impressed with how smoothly the F3 triple engine runs at as low as 3000 or 4000 rpm. My Aprilia RSV 1000 (V twin) would shake and shudder a bit down that low when the throttle was opened. The F3 800 is a very flexible engine, happy to toodle along at 4k, or run up to 13k. For best acceleration anything over 8k is good, over 10k even better.
i just wish it sounded better when idling.

I may be mistaken, but 3000rpm would place you in the area where the motor has been electronically set to be lean for pollution control.

ok that would make sense
As an example, my Street triple with an Arrow exhaust was stolen, and the scumbag took off all the secondary air injection and the o2 sensor. It was recovered. when I got it back I uploaded a suitable mapping and the result is that it is now amazing to ride around the suburbs at low speeds. I lost 20kms of fuel tank range, but it is so much nicer to ride.
