Hi folks. I’ve been following this site for years but only just got round to signing up fully. I was all set on buying an early F3 800 a few years back but tales of dropped valves etc put me off. I know the latest bikes are now mostly sorted but I can’t help thinking I’d be buying on outdated bike if I buy a 2020 F3. What’s the word on a replacement for the current F3 model ? Cheers. :grin2:

Earlier 675 models "suffered" the drop valves, and even then it was a small %'s. R&D happens and solves it.
First year of new Yamaha the R1's dropped valves aswell yet Ive seen them surpassing 50.000km's, just like ive seen multiple F3's surpassing 30-40.000km's.
Happens across all brands, and how the owner handles the bike.
There isnt a word of replacing the F3, there are words of adding an F3 with more displacement.
Also from 2016 onwards the F3 has basically stayed the same. Maybe a downblipper has been added but thats it.
So really isnt 'outdated' compared to a 2020modelyear

'Outdated' is merely a state of mind. For me, I wouldn't knock back a model because she's wearing last year's clothes (bike or woman:wink2
. The reality is that we should buy what WE want and not be influenced by what someone else's opinion might be of our 'older' bike. In the long run, after 3 or 4 years, only the true enthusiasts are able to discern model differences, and we are the ones who respect choices, not criticise them.

Ha. Officially it’s 40 MPH here in Jersey (35 in Guernsey) and we all abide to that limit of course officer ;-)
Luckily we have La Belle France on our doorstep - which is only 90 mins away by fast ferry.
If I buy an new F3 I’ll do the initial break of approx 200 miles here, which is great for the gearbox etc, then take it over there to loosen the motor up a bit before booking any euro track days.

And the bike that makes you look back at it after the test ride is the one you should buy.

Shit sorry to hear that. I’m holding out for news of the 2021 bikes in the hope they will address these issues once and for all.
