Hey guys,
just want to say hi from the land of OZ in Sydney. Just joined up and want to say you have one of the best sites on the net. Its better than porn. Anyway reading through the posts, there are heaps of intersting things about the bike im learning about. I have a 2004 MV SPR. She's in the workshop getting a new rear accentric hub, axel, etc as the bearings seized on me while i was on the highway doing over 180. Lucky im a strong bloke and for the damper otherwise i would have been tankslapped right over across 4 lanes. i suggest you boys check the greasing of the bearings and that evrything is tightened to the right torque. Also cleaning your wheels with a degreasing agent can remove the lube from the bearings so watch that too. can anyone suggest any mods they reccomend, i have pulled the baffles out and installed a power commander and BMC airfilter. Are RG3's worth it??Any advice i would appreciate.

Thanks for the compliment! Welcome to mvagusta.net and I hope you really enjoy your stay :)

MV Spr's are great. You should submit it to the mv registry up above. Simply browse to the Spr section and submit yours :)

:stickpoke

So I was reading your post, and to me 180 means MPH but then I rethought why you were still here typing. 180 KMH or MPH is still rather fast! Watch it out there. What # SPR?

Welcome, that sounds like an expensive repair bill, let us know the final costs and the damage sustained, maybe some photos of the damaged parts?

My thoughts exactly when I read that.

Another Aussie, wlecome and glad to see you stayed upright; those serious tank slappers can be pretty hairy sometimes.

That sounds scary! How many miles has the bike done? Did it have all the stamps from the servicing schedule the hubs should be checked and greased? From my very limited knowledge of this bike, the hubs seem a bit of a liaibility?

The bike has only done 7000km. The bike is under warranty at the moment getting fixed at casoli. Total repair bill is $4000. Still under warranty. I get it back next week i will try to put some pictures on the site. MV in queensland said they have had the problem before.

This is a concern, do you know if the servicing has been adhered to and by a MV service centre? Bearing failure is one thing, could have been a mechanical flaw in the manufacture, but for other dealers to say they know of this is a concern! Means i my mind that it may be design, and that means it could happen again!

The more details you can post up about the repair, the better!

Cheers

AUD$225 for bearings and Seals

IMHO, bearing failures aren't usual manufacturing flaws. They are usually poor lubrication, Poor adjustment and poor fitting. The comment about washing bike with degreaser is quite valid as it will dissolve the oil out of the grease soap. :nerd:

Was not referring to mechanical flaw with the bearing, rather housing/mating surface/lube channel etc,
