Greetings from Texas. I have been riding for as long as I could crawl onto a bike, and couldn't imagine being sane without one. I have had a long time love affair with MV Agusta in general but more specifically, the F4 RR312 1078. I acquire my dream bike fairly recently within the last two months. A 2009 F4 RR312 1078. It truly is my absolute favorite bike to date. (and that's saying something considering I have had a pretty good assortment of phenomenal two-wheeled machines. over the last three decades.) I was amazed at the speed and handling, not to mention stability and comfort (I'm 6'3" and 255 so it's rare to be comfortable) of a 10 year old motorcycle. Now if only I could find a starter and didn't have to push start it lol.

Looking forward to getting to know other MV Agusta enthusiasts

Nice ride. There are loads of people about who will probably have a spare starter lying around.

Horses for courses: Not a fan of the logo as it is poorly applied. It doesn't flow with the lines.

AS for your starter issue: How do you know it is the starter? More than likely it is the start solenoid which ios on the left side of the biek behind the side fairing.

This Is a known trouble spot. The starters are fairly robust.

Welcome to the family..!!!

I too suspect you have a starter solenoid or wiring problem....not the starter itself.

My apologies for the delay in responding to everyone who has been kind enough to welcome me to the forum. I have been getting to the bottom of the starting (or lack there of) issue. I will respond to the previous comments and questions following this one

The reason I believed, at the time I originally posted this, that the starter was the issue was due to the fact that I picked up the manual and as many workshop manuals as I could find. I have had many bikes over the years and this isn’t the first one to not start. So I went through the same basics that I would have on any bike: check continuity, check solenoid, battery etc. once those had been ruled out (or replaced in the case of the solenoid since I had one lying around) in my thoughts the only thing left was the starter. Not having the experience to know more in-depth possibilities of the F4 I never thought about things like the starter sprang. Or more specifically the starter gear that is for all intents attached to the back of the clutch basket ( along with the oil pump gear and main drive gear) I’ve attached a pic to illustrate the damage. Still not sure how something like this happens. The bike started fine and then had one hiccup of a non start only that once and then started a few more times and then nothing. In all fairness the original starter when I removed to see if I could rebuild it, had tremendous wear and over heating. It Has since been replaced. With a good used one for the time being while I sort out the rest of the issues. Once I removed the original starter and tested it to make sure it would function when current was applied ( which it did) I deceived to take the inner shaft out of the starter in order to have visual clearance as I placed the shaft alone with its gear back into the possibility for the starter. In this way I could spin the gear as if to simulate the starter and see what occurred. It seemed as if there was not the slightest tension from the gear that the starter gear ( part of the starter not the internal one) would then activate if the starter was being applied. This lead me to the alternator which I quickly realized would not put me in the area I needed to be. So consequently I Pulled the clutch and found the damage. I do not know if this is the extent of the part damaged or needed as I still must drop the oil sump/pan to hopefully retrieve the pieces that are somewhat still whole.

I know for sure I need the clutch basket with the three attached gears (oil, starter, and drive gears) and the baskets and prongs for the starter and alternator.

I currently have two complete sets of the frictions and steels. So at least I can save some there. I have also located what I believe to be the correct complete clutch for the F4 1078 312 used but with only a few thousand kilometers on it. But of course only in Italy and it will be nearly the same cost as a new one after shipping.

I am hopeful that the gears inside on both the main shaft and counter shaft have not been too damaged but I guess I will
Know in the next day or two once I get every thing torn down the rest of the way.

Lastly I agree with the placement of the decal as I would not have put it on at all (somewhat of an eye sore for the largely egocentric or insecure in my opinion)

Lastly I have experienced a rash of other small incidents of late the kickstand broke all of the sudden. I was parking it and was turning to walk away when it gave and I did my best to place myself in between the bike and the ground. Good news I stopped it from hitting the ground. Bad news: my knee brake the left side faring and the mirror broke off as it hit my shoulder.

I will say this, I have never enjoyed a bike as much as this one in all my years of riding. I would rather bump start this bike everywhere if need me than ride any other machine that started normal. I am a 100% push the envelope riser on the track. But on the streets I allow the amount of traffic to determine the amount of foolishness I engage in ( which means very little if any most of the time)

I don’t think. I can pay a higher compliment to this bike than my previous statements. Do not see ever getting rid of it and have my eye on a late model F4 RR AMG currently as well.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated gentlemen and if anyone has a used set of fairings laying around along with clutch I would be more than happy to take all the above off your hands and owe you quite the favor on tops of the purchase. I say this with the upmost sincerity , it truly hurts me to see this beautiful machine sitting in the garage in pieces instead of on the road where she belongs

Thank you in advance

ROEHR 1250SC Is an American Superbike . 1250cc Harley V-Rod liquid cooled v-twin Supercharged. Google it . 12 bikes in collection 2 are MVs . A 2007 MV F41000R , Fast by ferracci big bore kit to 1130cc upgraded head to toe including febur race radiator. Bike runs at only 160 to 180 degrees even on hot days. Then 2013 MV F4RR upgraded to MV F4RC spec + Borla headers..Bought a new 2016 Kawasaki H2. Love the bike, Brutal acceleration and Very comfy for a sport bike. Handling is a bit flexy flyer but knew this before I bought the bike H2 trellis chassis is flimsy. MV F41000R will run rings around a Kawasaki H2 at a track day.

Wow...that gear on the basket....that's wild. Haven't heard of or seen that one before. Wonder what started the damage? One broken tooth would proceed to take them all off I guess.

Can't help with the parts, but hope you get her back together soon.

First, thank you for the warm welcome. With auto correct I think I have trouble spelling knowledgeable myself lol. I have a feeling I will be reaching out for advise as I move along. I have been following this forum for longer than I’ve owned the RR312. I have found it to be extremely helpful and informative. Also, the camaraderie is awesome. So many other forums that I have participated in have not been the case. My other passion is my 1000HP 2016 BMW M6. That I tool around in when the weather is t cooperating for one of the bikes.

Look forward to getting know you more along with everyone else here.

That’s my guess as well. There are a few places where it is obvious that a tooth or two broke off and I’m sure the tooth or teeth then assisted with the rest of the damage. I’m hoping that someone sees my other posts and has a good used basket
