Okay....I did it......I am the proud new owner of 06 F4 with 1000miles. (and probably the ONLY one in Mississippi) I wish I new about this bike 2 years ago. I love it! I was going for a Ducati but bought it sight unseen just for the visual impact and specs from what I've read on this site! This is the fastest bike I ever owned and so agile. But now
after taking it easy and ramping up slowly I now want it to be faster!

It came with a aftermarket Arrow mid-pipe. If I throw some Arrow cans on it will it increase the HP much or just sound better? What does the DB killer? do on the Arrow Cans?

Is there a brake upgrade? I'd like to have a little bigger brakes and a bit more gripping power when I need it. What's out there?

And the biggie......I'd like a little more "instant" throttle response especially between 3-5k RPM...would the power commander help out? Is it easy to do with average mechanical skills?

There is no dealer within 900 miles of me so I'm going to be stuck doing a lot of this myself. How hard is the improved water pump impellor to change out? I notice the H20 temp seems to run a bit warm 200-212 after a high speed run. Not a lot of stop lights here.....but I do like to go fast (within reason).

Any help or gouge you could pass on would be greatly appreciated......I really enjoy all of your posts, especially reading the stuff from the experts. You wont hurt my feelings so please throw it at me...I'm ready to learn all I can.

Thanks

V/R

Welcome, congratulations on your choice. Great to hear you are out there putting some miles on it.

All you questions are covered here in detail. The Search button above will give you dozens of hits to people who have done it all before.

For the power, you would be best served by an RG3 pipes and matching EPROM, BMC Race Air filter and a PC III dyno mapped to suit the rest of the setup. FOr that you would need a local Dyno guy or get the exact same setup as someone here and beg a custom map. The Arrow cans are what the race teams use but don't turn up as regularly with the members here. Opinions will very as to the resultant power (more than 5, less than 15HP), but all would agree that the sound improves and the power becomes much more useable. The flat spots pre 5000 can typically be minimized or removed.

The impeller alone will help, so will specialist coolant, so will an extra fan, so will muzzy blades on the existing fans.

To put the problem into the past, the whole lot are probably required. Each step does reward though. (I have just done the blades and water wetter and seen a couple of degrees knocked off), winter now so not the demand. Will do the fans and impeller in the spring.

Enjoy you new toy!

Thanks.......and I am enjoying it....I lost my courage today at 148....but maybe someday I'll get it back. I'm not as cavalier as I used to be! I did search YouTube and love the sound of this Arrow Can with the "DB Killer".....its on a Brutale but I loved the mellow smooth resonant sound the can made on the end of the video...that's the sound Im after.

I'll buy new if I have too, but would rather save the $$$ and spend it on something else...if you know what I mean.

I'll check out the coolant an fan blades.

Do some more searching on youtube for some of the other MV exhaust setups, you have a few choices. The Arrow setup for the F4 is two cans and sounds different again to your link above. Lots of choice.

I went through the same process over the last year with my F41000R

1st off I fitted the RG3's with the race Eprom
= increase in noise, smoother throttle, more power (measure by my ass dyno)

Have now added decatted midpipe, BMC air filter & PCIII with custom map
= even more noise (deeper & more resonant) improved throttle response, especially in the lower rev range, a healthy 10hp increase with noticeable improvement in the midrange, (170 rwhp) & the best bit, a brilliant growl & snarl when you close & pick up the throttle - has a real crackle, like a pukka race bike !

So, RG3s + BMC Filter + decatted midpipe + PC with custom map = a real improvement in fuelling, power, & a fantastic sound

Spegr, where are you at in Mississippi??? I'm currently working over sea's right now, but i live on the North Shore in "Louisiana", and me and my Bud's ride to the Mississippi cost almost every weekend when i'm in town, also when i get back i think me & you will have the only M.V. F4 in that area of the U.S. LOL,LOL

Any way P.M. if you what to go riding with use!!!!

I ordered the impeller and Muzzy fan blades. I want to diminish the heat output before I do anything else. Once I put those in/on I'll look at more power. More power won't do anything for the bike if it runs hotter as a result. I may also add the third fan as outlined in one of the threads here.

Im ordering the fan blades and impellor today....thanks. But has anyone else noticed "brake fade" on the F4 when you really get on them hard? There has to be a brake upgrade or better pucks?

Yup, Radial Brembos and then monoblock Radial Brembos.

Requires replacing the ends of your forks, look at a 312 or RR for how they look.

The Nissin gear isn't rubbish, yes it will fade a bit if you hammer them, but is really quite good. You may be in need of some new pads. As your bike has done few miles, you may have air or moisture in the brake fluid. Cheapest thing to do first is to replace the fluid and bleed the brakes.
