New brutale 1000rs chain slack noise?

Hi Gang,

Out riding today and starting noticing what sounds like chain slack or chain slap noise on decel in the lower rpm range...70 miles on the bike so far...sometimes its really noticeable on decel in the lower rpm and sometimes it's not...what concerns me is that it doesnt seem to happen with the clutch pulled in but I also know the tension would be gone in the gear too when the clutch is pulled in.

anybody else experience this? should I adjust the chain at such low mileage? I know they initially stretch but I thought it would be a few hundred miles to do that too.

my Nürburgring has the same exact noise/issue. Tho I’m not entirely sure it’s the chain because I just replaced my chain to lengthen it for the +2 rear sprocket and the same exact noise is still there. I’m afraid it’s something in the trans at this point. I’ll be taking my bike to the dealer this Saturday. I’ll let you know what they say.

Take your bike to get the map updated asap!!!! 90% of the noise will disappear!

So I just got back home from the dealer. They updated the map to the latest. First and foremost it completely transformed the bike! My bike idles better, launches smoother and the chain slap noise is minimal at best now. The shop foreman and head MV mechanic rode my bike and confirmed what little noise remains is completely normal.

oak, I sent you a message on FB messenger. But you need to go get the map updated in your bike! It makes a huge difference.

i am assuming the bren tune map will fix everything as well? how do i get my map updated without the first service interval mileage being accomplished?

Call your dealer. Let them know you were in contact with MV and they said that there is a map update available for your bike that fixes a few fueling issues and that it can be installed under warranty. Ask them to request the passcode for the map update ahead of time. They will need your vin for that. Once they receive the passcode (approx 2-4 days) take them your bike to get updated. It only takes an hour. I would do that then get the Bren tune done. It’s what Martin did, it’s exactly what I’m doing.

Rode the bike for the last hour...didn't experience the noise even once...the changes I made were in the settings, engine brake, set it to low...not sure if this is what made the difference. I will keep updating as I ride it. Being intermittent, it might take a while to figure this out.

Mine went away after the MV offical map update.

I can replicate the noise in neutral by a low rev now sometimes too...i will update if I find anything...it's sporadic.

I get the noise to appear sporadically at between 18-22mph when downshifting and letting the bike engine brake slowly.

I recently adjusted my chain so I don’t think it’s chain noise.

the odd part is its not consistent…I can ride it for 20-30 min and never hear it and then I get to those speeds downshifting and hear it.
Sounds like a characteristic of the bike and nothing to worry about. Ride on !!!

for sure. Hopefully my link pipe install will eliminate me being able to hear the noise. Problem solved!!! Lol.
I will not bet on that @ArabianOak, I didn't notice it too much when new but since I changed the exhaust (manifold and decat) it started happening as described by you. One important thing to note is the bike run awfully now ^^ I will adjust the tune soon

your getting the noise too around those speeds on occasion?

yep, just as you described, happen when engine braking at low RPM, it seems to be related to the fueling map and/or engine mode which cause the bike to "jerk" which.
It is really amplified in my case by the fact the tune is not adapted to the empty exhaust anymore

hmmmm. Mine was def worse before my Bren tune and now is very intermittent but still happening often enough to notice.

do you plan to take the bike in to get it checked?
I plan on making a baffle system to reduce the noise level first which could increase the back pressure and improve the ridability and then see with Bren if still necessary to adapt the tune.

For sure your Bren tune will need to be modified with the link pipe. I would bet the race exhaust tune they did for my Nürburgring will work just fine.

mine does the same thing and the dealer said it was normal.

I emailed Bren and he said no tune revision needed for the link pipe...oh boy...lol.

It’s a fully open catless exhaust with now with no baffles. How in the hell do they think no tune is needed? Jesus. Now I’m really going to put people off of giving them money!
