Well it looks like I'm up for a new battery or at least that's where I'll start to try and solve the "bitch of a thing to start" issue that seems to be getting worse.
I know the Yuasa YTZ10S gets a good rap but I've also seen Lithium mentioned here. What model/brand should I be looking at here?
Love my B3 800 but the fear of being stranded in rural and remote Victoria (AU) has me worried. :jsm:

I got a SSB LFP14H-BS as a replacement.

Lithium, huge weight saving, 290cca vs the BS 190cca and most importantly this Lithium does not require a special lithium charger - uses a standard car 12V charger (without desulphation phases etc)

$220 but I have seen some on ebay for less

Here you go mate - http://www.mvagusta.net/forum/showthread.php?t=187738
You can try an 8 cell LiFo, I use one on the 1000 and it's good, but if you're a bit into buying a lower class battery go for a 12 cell instead.
Were it me I'd make sure I upgrade the battery cables and above all make sure it's not your Spragg clutch.

Thanks mate. Its not holding charge for long after being tickled or used and the hard to start bit is related to battery load as far as I can tell which resets the trip meters if cranking for more than 5 seconds. Will be checking all cables and connectors too with the view to having some heavier ones made.

Thanks I saw these on eBay last night and they looked good.

I was thinking about switching to my CTEK trickle charger instead of the MV supplied one. Any issue with that?

You can't use the MV charger on any Lithium battery (it has a desulphation phase that 'overcharges' the battery briefly to clean up the inner plates - lithiums don't have that). Also make sure you have a basic Ctek charger (ie a basic charge cycle followed by a holding trickle charge) or use a basic car charger.

Also don't leave lithiums on a trickle charge - they are meant to be charged and then uncoupled.

I have to say she turns over beautifully now - even though she does not always start up first time. I recently changed over to Shell 95 fuel only so will see how that goes.

A trickle charger will maintain a "good" battery, it will not "repair" a half dead battery in most cases.
You can use any charger on a Lithium battery of the sort discussed as long as it does not use the "desulph" mode.

I just replaced my dead, two year old Yausa battery. It was purchased to replace the OEM unit. The dealer recommended an AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) which I thought the Yuasa was. I do not remember the brand and it’s not listed on my invoice. However, I think it’s a MotoBatt as the part number is MBTZ10S. May not be the greatest but, comes with a two year warrantee. He told me if it dies within that time just phone him and he’ll ship a new one to me without questions. We’ll wait and see.
