MY10 removable air "door" at bottom of v-piece?

1413 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Mr. Gimmie
Cleaning my bike today I discovered something new. At the bottom of the v-piece below the bottom radiator there's a removable cover (comes off from the rear) to allow airflow through to vent air over the exhaust.

Anyone else ever notice this?

Sorry. I didn't think to take one while I had all the bodywork off.

Thank you now I know what you meant ;) didn't know that
I don't think that's an OEM part, but yeah, that's where the removable bit is, but is divided into two down the middle on the factory part.

Kinda interesting that it's removable. I mean, either it needs air through there or it doesn't.
I would say the more air the better and less weight too. Maybe somebody really smart will come along with a reasonable explanation.
bought a '10 radiator and shroud

it has the 2 removable plugs dated 1-10

Nice observation.

I'm rebuilding a slightly damaged 2010 and noticed it too. With the water that can collect in the lower from combustion and road use it might be good to have some extra ventilation in addition to previous mentions.

Interestingly the service manual indicates the cover removed.... (Pg 30, workshop manual).
