MV Parts pool

How many times have you read a thread from a member who has to order a part from the dealer but it is going to take two weeks, six weeks, who knows how long, to arrive from the factory?

We are a fairly small community and some of us have a few parts laying around that are functional but not good enough to sell. Just perfect for a fellow member to borrow until his new part arrives from the factory.

If there is a designated section on the site where we can go to post what we temporarily need it would be fairly easy to keep track of what is in the pool and who has what.

There are two guys here who have leaking radiators and are waiting for factory replacements.

I'll start if off with an upper radiator for a 1000. Not good enough to sell because one of the side tanks is dented, but it works, doesn't leak, and you can't see the dent with the fairings on. Just pay the postage and I'll send it to you.

You can use it until yours arrives. When you are done with it "throw it back in the pool".

Good idea? Stupid idea?

Great idea Carl, I have several rear wheel nuts, front and rear discs and several other bits, I'd be happy to loan out if it helps anyone.

#7 ·
That's a great idea. All I have is a gray fender for a Brutale and a bunch of bent pieces of metal that were formerly recognizable bits and pieces from the front end. I've got some bolts, too.

Carl, great idea!!! I will certainly throw in some of the parts i have picked up over the past few years. I think a spot on the board that parts are listed and the dates in which the list has been last updated would be a good way to keep track. Let me know when it is all sorted out. Again, great idea!!!!:drummer:

i think its a good idea but how many people are honest enough to actually returned the item to the pool, im a little skeptical i dont think it would work, would you send it to a new member? or some smart ass trying to make a buck from us, i really dont know i have a couple of parts for gsxrs, r1, cbrs, pretty much any jap bike even ducati parts, i would give it a try but ill bet you we would lose all our stuff

#13 ·
I think most of the people here are honest enough to return stuff. Plus everyone on the board will know who has what and that might dissuade some of the scammers.

I think we need to get Admin on board with this. He would have to set up a section in the forum. When you send a part you post to whom and when. When that person is done borrowing it he posts it is available.

Something like that.

A member here once loaned me a shifter peg for a week while I waited for a replacement--I really appreciated it, and he wouldn't even let me pay shipping.

I have a brutale tailpiece, needs paint.

Certainly a great idea Carl and in principal very honorable. But for what its worth what criteria would be used to determine if the prospective recipient of this plan is worthy of the trust of valuable parts such as the radiator you have suggested that you would be prepared to put up for loan.

It would seem that a certain set of criteria and qualification for eligibility to be considered would have to be set out such as:

1. How does a forum member become eligible for qualification to be included in such a scheme?
2. Does he or she have the the ability to fit such a part?
3. What is the score if the part is returned damaged?
4. What guarantees would be set in place that the loaned part is in fact for that member and "Not on behalf of his best pal" :violin:Honest he's really a good bloke!!
5. There should be a set of qualifications required to make a member eligible
6. Receipts failing to comply with the terms and conditions would it seem have to be given admonishment for failure to comply with the set out terms and conditions, so a whole bunch of rules would have to be compiled and enforced BUT BY WHO?:jsm: the "What If" and "Or Else" problem comes to mind.
7. These are only a few things that I have quickly considered as possible but I'm sure there will be other far more learned members of this forum than me that will be able to forsee pitfalls in what is surely a wonderfull suggestion but only really possible in a utopic world,
8. Just imagine if for example you had to send some of the "Boys" round to reclaim the property it would become very ugly, can you just imaging the way the forum could and would be used to highlight the possible transgressor of the unwriten law.

A veritable minefield of potential problems strike me as being very possible! but as a concept I think the idea to be a very good and very honorable one, but only possible in a perfect world. I forsee it ending in tears :bawling:

But unfortunately human nature being what human nature is I feel sure that there will be unscrupulous folk out there that will engineer this concept in order to gain something for nothing....................ending up in the Big Sting!!

im guessing the parts that we post are parts that we can live with out, so if something gets missing we don't feel like we got robe, its just parts so post just the parts you have no use for, clear up some space
Here... Here!!!!

As Faztbikez states... Its just stuff/parts that is no longer of any use to yourself and you don't mind giving it away for FREE...

FREE is the key term here..

If those said parts ever get put back into circulation in this so called " Free Parts Pool" (FPP) then all well and done... No one is then hard done by..

Enough Said :blah:

Anyone got a free Mag swinging arm lying around not doing anything :spank::crazyeyes:laughing::laughing:;)

Perhaps I'm just a cynical old twat Johnny, :stickpoke

As I say, I do reckon the idea is a terrific one for sure :) But human nature being, what human nature is I foresee unscrupulous types possibly NOT having any connection with this forum or MV Agusta motorcycles whatsoever hearing of this scheme and then taking full advantage, do you think this an unrealistic observation I have? as I think it to be very realistic and plausible.

The consequences of someone posting on this forum that they have since found that in "Good Faith" a part was "Pooled" (Possibly a valuable part now hard to get hold of) to another party which he has since disposed of elsewhere for a profit has to be considered, it would be naive to believe that the possibility could exist otherwise.

I am basing my observation on Carl's fine gesture in the original post, stating that he has a radiator he is willing to pool! This is certainly NOT an item with little intrinsic value as it holds water! ergo, it is of use = has a financial worth therefore valuable.

My prime concern is that folk could take the piss that's all, and soon thereafter the plan would go "Tits Up"

I think you have missed my point

Is this the 5 minute argument or the full half hour?

Just paint the stuff you want to put up on the *borrow section* hot pink that way, no one is willing to sport it longer than needed (till parts arrive). Nobody's going to sell off a pink painted radiator or green clutch lever and make a profital business out of it.

Just an idea.....

As has been mentioned, the radiator is something that is damaged and if I never see it again It won't break my heart. That is the idea: all the parts in the pool have wear or damage. They are there just so a member can use them to get by on.

In response to Ade's concern, I propose the following: Perhaps you would need to be a "senior member" of the forum in order to participate in the pool. Senior member being what ever number of posts you need to earn that title. Some one who joins the forum and who's first post is " I need to borrow the following parts from the pool: ...) would not be allowed to participate.

For example Cag posts in the parts pool section of the forum:
7/20/2006, Upper radiator, Nicensleazy.

A month from now nicensleazy reports that his new radiator is installed on his bike; it fits great, doesn't leak, makes his bike run 10c degrees cooler, and makes the bike exceed 312 kmh with the greatest of ease.

All members know, or have the ability to know, that the pool radiator is available. The member would just get in touch with nicensleazy and arrange shipping.

If he doesn't have the radiator available for the next member, hopefully he will have a good reason why not.

This idea is less than 24 hours old and already we've got some great offers of parts for the pool and suggestions on how to set it up. I think that speaks volumes about the caliber of the members here.

  1. Ade, I never knew you when i sent down the seats, but i sent then down to you and you did a heck of a good job and sent them back
I think what CAG has said is a great idea and if I had items on the shelf not being used i would sure help out if i could.

I have a set of casoli pipes on my EV03 just now that a good friend gave me a shot of to try out, Which reminds me, as soon as im back onshore to get them off and back to him.

I honestly think & hope most on here would be honest and upfront and its what makes this a great forum

    Carl good on you mate

I also think through time we get to know and trust each other on here, lets face it weve had a lot of dealings, purchases, swaps through time on here and hopefully get to know each other well enough for friendship and trust, im sure most on here would have other forum members that can vouch for them and allow the trust to grow

You also get a good feeling from helping someone out

I sure hope warren accepts this offer from Carl and this is the start of the CAG Pool

I think its great. I have so many things sitting my garage that if I lent them out it would not hurt me one bit. Like some one had a wind screen broken. I would have easily lent him one while he waited to get one in. I have several extras for a 05 999 and some for a 06 F4 1000. I think it would be easier to make a NTB (need to borrow) spot, those of us who don't mind the risk can hook someone up.

Can I just borrow 'em for a week or two? :mouthwate I'd send her...ummm, I'd send them back.:ahhh:

Hi Brandon

Is the left side clip-on the later F4 1000 type or the early 750 kind ??

Cheers
