I've been looking to get a gps I can clip on the bikes. The Zumo is astronomically expensive compared to the Nuvi. I know the Zumo works with gloves on and is weather proof but considering I live in So cal where it's unlikely I'll be caught out in rain any time soon. Would a cheaper Nuvi with a motorcycle mount not do the trick? Or is there a good reason not to put a Nuvi on motorcycle? It's 700 dollars for the Zumo - You can get good Nuvi for half that price or less. In some cases the Nuvi hardware is better and comes with more options. Also the sleeker profile of the Nuvi would be more discreet when mounted.

Thoughts would be appreciated. I'll pay for the Zumo if there's good reason too.

We use a cheaper car type GPS inside a small waterproof bag, specifically made for a bike, something along these lines;

We were out on a ride with friends and we turned a mountain corner right into a rain storm...unexpected to ssay the least...we all pulll over, them to don rain gear, me to remove my Valentine One toput it somewhere safe. They all had radar detectors and GPS and the like...their solution for preventing damage due to rain? Zip Lock Sandwich bags...thin so you can still use buttons, waterproof, the zipper snugs them on, and CHEAP!
