Nice to see a F4 at a reasonable price, makes a change when you consider age or bike and what they originally sold for and the lack of spares today as most seem to want to hold onto spares or sell at high prices.

Spare parts.....
They only made so many......minus those that were ruined, means there's a shortage, meaning they cost more
That said SuperLight wheels have dropped from $1,400 to $1,000
And MonoBlocks are getting cheap too

Yep all of what you have said above has just persuaded me to walk away from F4's
was just about to buy one tomorrow, but its true what you say, people charging a fortune for spares
time to move on with the times sadly.

Foolish decision......
They aren't charging a fortune, certainly compared to new part cost from the Stealerships
1st Gen cush drives that never fail are ~$250 on eBay
1st Gen hubs are $325 with a new 3810-2RS bearing if you tear your hub up
I'll sell you a better quality than stock 3810-2RS bearing for $34 + shipping if that's all you need
They retail for $142 here:surprise:

My Brutale 910R has almost 39,000mi, bought it with 4,200mi valve cover hasn't been off while I've owned it
Still on the original DID chain and sprockets
Battery lasted 8 years
Burned out 2 low beam bulbs
Broke 2 toe pegs
Side stand spring peg wore through
Used pair of Mg Marchesinis needed front wheel bearings
Valve cover weeps .....not enough to drip or fix

Hands down the most reliable bike I've ever owned :grin2::grin2::grin2:

Why should I buy a 15 year old F4 with 15 years wear and tear when I can buy a 1 or 2 year old F3 for the same price with an abundance of spares that haven't been blown out of proportion with pricing

you said it yourself F4 spare parts, fairings, tanks, air boxes all rocketing up in price why? because some people are willing to pay that crazy price for them

If I went ahead and bought that F4 then I am also to blame for being willing to pay these prices,
I remember back in 2010 you could buy a new F4 1078 or F4 312R for £10999

I have owned 3 - F4's but as much as I wanted to trade my 1078 Brutale in for another rather than have a Brutale and a Dragster, I will step back and let someone else pay the over priced asking price.

I think anyone buying a Gen One F4 now is buying it for the love of the bike, the marque, and it's history. There is no doubt that the F4 holds a place in all serious motorcyclist's hearts.

Buying one today (and I would still buy a mint 312 rather than an F3) is about the love of the bike and not practicality or parts availability - in my view of course. This is definitely a 'horses for courses' argument, and not restricted to just MV Agusta.

The 'overpriced asking price' now are indicative of the public perception of these bikes. Rarity and demand equals inflation. If we buy 'overpriced' we will also sell 'overpriced'. It's all relative.:wink2:

Thats why I will not be part of the over pricing, by paying over the odds, and I also clock up a lot of miles on bikes every year so the price of spares are also an issue,

far to many people are more interested in making cash, rather than help people out, yourself not included Nigel, I consider you "old school" helping out with spares and parts,

I said nothing about parts "rocketing up in price"......l said they've come down>:)

Did you notice what I've had fail on my '08 Brutale 910R in 35,000mi ?
2 low beam bulbs
2 front wheel bearings (on used wheels)
and the spring mount peg on the side stand mount
(someone sent me a complete side stand for free, because they thought it was so funny that I'd worn one out)

So I've spent ~$45 in 35,000mi on my 1st Gen MV

1st Gen MVs just work and have real automotive charging systems
Just reduce the pinch bolt torque to 15lbft/20Nm
And coat all electrical connections with dielectric grease

The Cripples have;
Shit charging systems
Issues with half baked electronic devices
Sprag clutches that fail because of BS batteries that should never been installed
Valves and valve springs that fail
Hubs and cush drives that fail
