Would appreciate some ideas or a starting point. I'm getting a intermittent miss fire at around 9000 rev it's almost like hitting the rev limiter but not always there
2006s only 4000 miles

Start simple and work towards more complicated reasons
1. Check for spark ay spark plugs
2. Check for kinked or deteriorated fuel lines both inside and outside the tank
3. Has the fuel filter been changed recently

The above in my opinion are a quick check and a good starting point, If the above doesn't help you may have a bad coil, bad fuel injectors, etc. plenty of more knowledgable people will be on to guide you soon enough.
More information on the bike, recent services/changes/model etc will help the guru's on here help you.

Good luck and let us know how you get on

A faulty EBS relay ( located up front left side ) might do this. EBS = Engine braking system

and....due to the location they are prone to being cooked by the heat on these models..

from 2007 R models onwards the relay function is provided by the ECU itself.

Thanks for the replys it's a good starting point
How do I check the EBS relay
Hi Andy,

The EBS ( engine braking system ) is designed to let a little fuel and air into No 2 cylinder under conditions of heavy engine braking. This adds a little torque and reduces the potential for the rear wheel to lock up.

The relay switches very rapidly and energises a solenoid valve which controls the air admittance in the no 2 intake ( just downstream of the butterfly ).

It's early here and I should be working ! but, have a look in the maintainance section on Donsy's team 33 sticky..The manuals are there.

There should be an electrical test you can do with a multimeter.

They are known to fail..

However, before you fork out $£$ , don't assume but go through the simple diagnostics.

Forum Sponsors Star Twin Trading sell them I believe.

Hope you solve it !

Joe

Hi andy, not really sure if you only have the one filter, my bike is a couple of years younger then yours and I'm not that families with the differences. The good news is donsy has generously made available the service manual for your bike. There is a sticky at the top of this section that will lead you to it, download it and it will let you know.

Eye ball the fuel lines inside the tank when you take the fuel pump out and if there's any doubt, replace them. Be careful replacing the fuel pump, it's not hard to break the o ring if it's not seated properly.

Did you order the iridium s park plugs ? I feel the bike runs better with these, a little more expensive but worth the extra few dollars in my opinion and you don't have to change them anywhere near as frequently.

Good luck, have fun (I do when I work on my bike), and keep us posted how you get on

Good result from changing the plugs the bike now starts better and no misfire also fitted new conection to the fuel lines many thanks to joe once again.
I'm still waiting for my fuel filter but I'm not in a rush to replace it now. I was surprised to fine the bike already had Iridium plugs I had had them in my blade and they were only scheduled for replacement at the 30000 due to the difficulty in changing them. Would anybody know the service interval on the mv or is it the same as the manual at 6000 ?
Just a word of thanks for your replays it always helps when you had a second opinion
Regards Andy.
