Just curious.. but isn't the material supposed to be able to handle this kind of abuse?.. or is there an elbow puck made for that?

No. Leather can't hold up to that.

That's what the pucks are for. Some suits come with hard sliders on the elbows now - such as some of the Berik suits (MotoGP, Arlen Ness). You'll see almost all the MotoGP guys have hard stuff on the elbows of their suits.

Lean angles for those guys can get up to 60 degrees...

FWIW there is armor still on the inside of the elbow, so it isn't too dangerous.
