I was in the process of changing the oil and took a look at the magnet on the oil plug and spotted all these metal shavings. Is this normal?

I always thought these magnets were like a snake oil, and maybe this stuff is really not that significant. Regardless, I was surprised.

In addition, I bought some high-quality after market oil filters and after comparing it to the mv part, the flow holes look very different. I'm a bit concerned that these are not spec'ed the same.

If any of you guys uses after market oil filters, what do you use? If not, were do you get OEM filters at a reasonable price?

Typical.

And best to stay with the OEM filter, they're not a significant expense, and worth the peace of mind. You won't gain anything by using something else.

That looks typical for ANY brand bike with a magnet on the drain plug. Transmission gear filings. You'll get more if you shift without the clutch.
