I was so happy to take receipt of my very own Ipotesi :yo: and what can I say? Beautiful :)

Now starts the but... gave it a quick once over.
General check over - bike looks in good shape (fount tyre only flat on the bottom. :naughty:)
Checked oil - looks nice and clean and nearly full
Checked tank - small amount of fuel, smells fresh
Checked battery - dead flat (no surprise there)
Checked electric starter (MIA :stickpoke)
Turned engine over by hand - engine feels good.
Turned fuel tap on..... Should the fuel flow out of the top of the Carby? :wtf:

So at a guess I think the float in the Carby is jammed, could be a hole heap of other reasons but over the weekend I'll get the carby off and have a look.

To tell you the truth I would have been disappointed if it had been 100% now I get to play.

Congrats on the bike.
Just a warning with these engines have a weak spot the valve seats let go as I have now discovered . I was warned but thought it wasn't going to happen to me and I was actually going to do it in the winter as I sorted out or the other issues it had and wanted to enjoy it over the summer.
But it got me before , Now I'm looking at a engine rebuild . New head, pistons etc.
So take the advice seriously as I should have. Enjoy the bike

Hey Adrian,

Thanks for the advise, I've read a little bit about this failure in other posts on this forum, I guess I need to find a good engine place to talk to, do you or any other members have any recommendation?

I'm not equipped to do custom valve seating work myself. I'm happy to do most engine work work such as I recently replaced piston, barrel, rings, etc. in the middle of an oval on my KTM rally bike. This was in the middle of the Australasian Safari only to be air lifted out of the next days stage after a nasty off. :bawling:

Thanks Westy

Should I just pull the head off and have a look or do all Ipoesi's need this modification?

Regards Justin

Speak to MVista on the forum, he has three Ipotesis and it happened to him also and he fixed his other bikes before it happened . I think it's only a matter of when it will happen not if ,as my mechanic said. There is a machinist next door to him who will fix my head if I can't get a replacement and hardened the valve seats on mine. His in Cranbourne .
This is what it did to mine

Thanks. I don't have any info on the mechanical history of mine, so looks like I'll be pulling off the head and checking/ replacing the seats. Seems to be a when, not if issue. I am quietly wondering if I will be able to tell if the job has been done by a prev owner. As it has 9500km and was stored from 83 to 2014 probably not. Thanks for the reply.

I doubt it. Might pay to check ,I wish I did. My engine was due for a rebuild anyway but didn't need this to happen. After to speaking to Albert Bold in the U.S , the ipotesi has a oil filtration problem and he was set on making something for this model . Saying it doesn't filter the oil properly causing crap to build up and putting heat and wear on components explains why my rods are gone and crankshaft needs rebuilding. And we pulled it apart the oil was like he said.

Adrian is the failure of the valve seat not a direct result of running with no leaded fuel?
Adding some lead additive to the fuel will likely take care of it.
Just my 0,02.

No,it's not Ralf. It's a common fault with this model , the valve seat is not hardened enough /strong and will pop. It's not a matter of if but when. Just ask Rob Rossi, Dorian, Albert etc.
