After a couple years away from MV, I'm slowly being drawn back in. However, I'm stuck with a dilemma. Should I buy a new F4 here, or in the states? I'm currently stationed over here in England, but I'm leaving to go back to the states in the early months of 2013. I'm getting ready to go to Afghanistan again in the next few weeks, so I want to get my new love when I get back next spring.

Anyways, to the question. Has anyone imported an MV from the UK (or anywhere in Europe for that matter) into the US? If so, were there any customs/ EPA issues? I've heard from the Harley guys here that importing a European-spec HD can get costly. Apparently all bikes/vehicles have to have the SAE stamp damn near everywhere on the bike. Wheels, tires, exhaust, lights, fuel tank, schrader valves... If the parts don't wear those stamps, they need to be replaced with conforming pieces. Is it worth the hassle (if there will even be one with the MV) to import one, or should I just fly home to CA for a month and buy one there? (And leave it in storage until 2013) Anyways, thanks for any information on the matter! :)

I'm currently working on this coming from Japan to Texas. If I were you I would wait, especially since you'll be gone most of the time. If you really wanted you can work out having one shipped to you out there. I did it with a CBR from the US to England. Only cost me 800 bucks for the airfare. I picked it up at the yard and road it home.

as far as i am aware, all MV parts have both stamps on it for the
US market as well as the european market. but there are some
differences because of emission standards. (how about this
evaporative canister in the US models)

I remember on my old MV that it had CA emissions stamps on the exhaust. I purchased that in Japan, brought it over here, then sold it. And lost a $H!T ton of money on it. I'll have to go up to the dealer again and take a closer look.

Oki, it only cost $800 to fly your CBR over here? It cost me $1,300 to ship my ZX10 via a big-ass boat. Might have to look into that one.

Still trying to decide between a white 312RR, or a gunmetal 2010+ F4.

i wonder if getting a gray import in the UK is workable. I got a gray imported FJR from the US. I'm not sure that it makes it any easier to get back into the states, but it should be.... given it was imported for that market.

Just a thought. Generally tho, bikes in the UK are much more expensive.

Yeah, but trying to find a grey market MV in the exact model and color I want is going to be a pain, if not impossible. I've spoken with a dealer here that is willing to work a good deal (as close to US pricing as possible) if I buy a new one from him. Plus, I can get away from the VAT and all that jazz since it will be exported within a year. But again it comes down to how difficult it will be to get through customs and then get a CA registration.

Randy, good to be back! It's been a while. Can't wait to add another F4 to my stable. (Sorry, no Bruties for me, I'm too big. ;) )

It,s not going to be easy.
Try to work out a deal with a dealer in the UK , that after that year that you use the bike in the
, he takes it back.
And then get one in the Us when you get there :)

Oki, that's what I'm thinking will be the best deal. Buy a new F4 down in So Cal, ride it up PCH, then leave it in my storage unit in Nor Cal until I return. Lol. Still reserarching, though.

Greny, if I could do that without losing any money, I would! Doubt anyone would let me get away with it, though. :(

Frenaugo, I can imagine that car would be worth it to import! Was it a Spider? Beautiful cars. And actually, I can get away without paying VAT here and no import taxes into the states. Military benefits. ;)
I'll send you a PM with my mobile number if you want to go for a ride.
