Does anyone kow how to core the exhaust for a 312 (2009) and also what the downsides (if any) are?

Aftermarkets are just too expensive if you want to keep the 4 pipes out of the back. I have searched the web for info. but can't seem to find any apart from a reference to possible loss of mid range. If anyone has any information / thoughts then it / they would be much appreciated.

Been alot of posts about "coring" the mufflers. Aside from making it louder I personally feel that it's not the greatest idea as it will disrupt the smooth flow of gases through the pipe. I doubt the average guy could tell the difference in performance if there even is any.

The mind equates louder with more power when in fact it could be less. For example HD drag pipes are loud as hell but cause a loss of power below anything other than high rpm.

Search the forum for guys that have done it and look for dyno comparisons between stock and cored.

Getting rid of the "cat" is a much better way to gain some power. Keep in mind that if you change the flow characterics of the exhaust you will have to retune the fuel mapping to compensate for the increased gas flow and hence the amount of air being drawn in.

Thanks for your comments. Will have do some more research and have a think about whether to go down that road.

I have a 2000 F4S and I was told the pipes were sent to England to be cored and polished. After about six months of ownership and about 1,300 miles I find them too loud and the cause a closed throttle backfire. That is usually the case when you are running too lean. I have ridden with my friends who have a 2002 and a 2006 and they are quieter and do not backfire. I would never make this modification. As Lee said it may sound like more power but I am not convinced it is and anyway I would never notice. Not enough difference to be able to feel by the seat of your pants. I Know from past experience sometimes modifications like this reduce power. Proven in a roll on with identical bikes, Hondas not MVs.
