I need some help ! I have to disassemble my Showas on my F4 to change out the compression (i think thats what it is) piece on the tops of my forks. I tried lifting the bike and removing the pressure on the front tire and unscrewing the tops to remove them but they only unscrew so far :wtf:. It's been a long time since I had a pair of forks apart and I'm drawing a blank. I thought that by removing the tops the spring would loose tension and you should be able to remove the guts. There should be a hollow rod that runs the entire legnth to move oil with the spring around it. What am I doing wrong ? Any takers ???? Carl... Ed... Chris...

Well I've spoken to Scooter about this and he reliably informs me, having consulted the manual, that the only reason that the top of the fork will not come off is that you may be undoing the preload adjuster.
Scooter is pointing to the large red fork cap that you need to remove. The smaller silver nut in the middle of the red cap is the preload adjuster.
I told Scooter that this is most likely not the case but he seemed adamant that the red cap should come right out when the fork is removed from the triple clamps.

Oh damn....... I shoulda known :wtf: I'm trying to remove the red cap from the rest of the fork internals. Any ideas ? When I lift it (cap) up theres a blue nut underneath it that it clearly unscrews from BUT there are these small pins dropping down from the top that surround the blue nut and I can't seem to get in there to disconnect the two
