Good evening!

Currently a 2010 Aprilia RSV4 Factory owner looking for a second bike.

Can someone explain the F4, years and versions, I'll not be able to afford a brand new one, but need to know what to look out for, I always go for the race "factory" type is there an equivalent? the "RR" ?

many thanks

Rob.

Hi Mate, here's a pretty good summary http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/bikes/mv agusta.htm
Hello and welcome to the forum Mr Jarvis.

Donsy, has you covered with the model specs.

Do you get down the Ace Cafe often?

MV's response is, "How much you got? We got you covered."

I only live 10 minutes down the road from "The Ace" my local haunt :) you'll pretty much see me there most (dry) weekends .

Looking at pre owned and people are bouncing about MY10 any good?

More comfortable, easier to ride. Doesn't have the class or presence of the original design (99-09), IMHO.

And the exhaust is fugly.

Regarding my earlier response, with the "early" F4s there are TONS of options for special, up-market models. They are expensive but if you wanted a limited run, optioned out (although compared to many bikes on the market even my lowly 750 came optioned out) models. 312s, Sennas, SPRs, Veltros, Tamburinis, CCs. It really just depends on how hard you are willing to look and how much you want to spend.
Sadly, probably none of those I listed (maybe a Senna or 312, not sure about the market in your currency). Id think you could get a later 1000, even in "standard" form you get power, great brakes and adjustable bits.
Rob.....go here. http://www.mvagusta.net/forum/showthread.php?t=77193

There's a current thread touching on some of the differences between early and late bikes. Welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your stay.
Rob,

Depending on whos selling you can pick up an 02 Senna for around the 7k mark as I did 2 years ago. Just means alot of scouring the market mate, you are probably looking at a minted 750 or 1000 prior to 09.

You may be able to pick up a newer model but it will probably have been well abused at that money. The good thing is the residuals are holding well, and although not good for buyers it is great for sellers.

Mine is worth more than I paid for it already.
Rob, I know a guy in Colorado selling a '2000 MY F4 with 19k miles, Diamante color. He is asking 6000 US dollars. Bike looks good, isn't perfect, I talked to the local MV dealer who said it was a good bike.
Rob's in the UK and, honestly, based on what I have seen around these parts that isn't a great price given the mileage. Fair for the area but I wouldn't be going out of my way for it.
Is the Old Man bike in your signature a Moto Guzzi?

Yeah, that's a Moto Guzzi Griso.

What he said, the Italian Harley (you know, after Aermacchi).
Hi Rob

I bought my 1000s last month so have been keeping an eye on costs. In a sort of similar scenarion I also have an RSV but the 1000 twin rather than a V4.

Prices do vary a bit with 750's current starting at about £5.5k, but you can pay the same or more for older models then newer ones. The cheapest 1000 currently around is a black F4R at Hyside motorcycles in Romford at £7.5k with 4k miles on it. Cooper m/c in Wellinborough have a 2007 312 for the same money with 6.6k miles which has the benefit of brakes similar to the Aprilia's (something I'm missing slightly with my F4). I haven't seen any of the exotic models for less than about £11k even for 05/06 bikes.
