Hello Gentlemen, need some pointers & help troubleshooting, I picked up a running 07 F4 1KR w/ 13k miles. So I go local MV dealer pick up new fluids filter and valve cover gasket sparkplug gaskets & bolt o-rings because it had a slow leak (poor silicone job they did when valve check/adjustment & they re-used original gasket instead of replacing).

I carefully took everything apart, checked valves everything to spec, sealed everything up and swapped out spark plugs. Connected tps & air sensor, installed airbox and fuel tank turned ignition switch on fuel pump primed and NOW the bike only turns over (yes new battery) I have NO SPARK … idk know why? Could use some help thanks in advance (below running video link & some pictures)

Good news I have spark now … seems to also have a fuel problem (sprayed a dash of carb cleaner) bike started and died … but won’t stay on. I did not replace tank internal PO said he did that 2 years ago will order a new fuel regulator & filter & pump to rule out that issue still frustrated why bike doesn’t run when it ran perfectly last week.

Spending money on parts you probably don’t need is not a good way to maintain a bike. Fuel Pressure Regulators rarely, if ever, fail. Fuel Pumps are designed for 100,000 mikes +, and the Fuel Filter, although a regular maintenance item is rarely the source of no fuel delivery.
Now, a Fuel Line Popping off is common.
I’d suggest pulling the Fuel Pump Plate and inspecting things first. Inferior hoses can easily degrade in two years of immersion. That hose should be J30R10 spec. and it would be my first suspicion.
What was the cause of no spark?

@silentservice703 thank you for quick response and I agree with you & sure enough you were correct I neglected to remove fuel pump plate and inspect inside the tank …. Next time you are in there, put a small Barb on the outlet pipe. Use a sharp knife. The Barb will help hold the hose in place.

Thanks for the tip … hopefully I won’t have to go back in there anytime in the near future. As for no spark faulty/loose kill switch slight lag on the red button return so I opened up cleaned contacts and tightened everything down. Waiting on fairings for paint correction and repair PO had frame slider holes cut in and she was tipped over on the right hand side hence the AGO stickers

Did you happen to notice the manufacturing date on the fuel filter? It would give you some indication as to when it was changed.

This would be a very poor indication of when a Fuel Filter was changed. I’ve got Fuel Filters in my inventory that I have had for more than five years….

So you are a hoarder.

But seriously, its a starting point, a year and a half ago I bought a F4 1000R damaged project bike. Before I started it I checked the filter, it was dated 2007! The fuel lines were branded Trelleborg (not that common here) and had factory clips so I expect I'm the first person in there since it left the factory. Dr Livingston I presume!

Unless it was owned by a relative of yours.

I must confess I buy filters in reasonable quantity from the US to keep the landed cost to NZ to a reasonable level but this exchange had me wondering if there is a shelf life for fuel filters. Google said minimum of 5 years but depending on storage conditions and temp of course .
It’s a paper filter in a metal container….probably very shelf stable but liability requires a date.

…and while I tend to hoard a bit, it is so I can send things out to Forum Members at a bulk (reduced) cost.
