Team Liqui Moly MV Racing - Rd #4 SA Supersport Championships @ Zwartkops Raceway – Pretoria

4th May 2013 Pretoria at Zwartkops Raceway, Liqui Moly MV Racing.

Practice: Although racing in the workshops’ back yard, it was yet another new track for the Liqui Moly MV F3’s prepared by Anassis Racing. Each of the three practice sessions were used to try different set-ups for Cam Petersen and Brent H...arran. With two coastal races under the belt, the altitude of Zwartkops raceway made a difference for the race configuration. In the last minutes of the final practice, Brent Harran tried too hard to top the tables and crashed heavily in the last turn of the Pretoria racetrack. He walked away unhurt but left the team engineers a full night of work, rebuilding the F3.

Qualifying: Brent had to get out early to ensure all the repairs were intact and quickly put himself on the front row in P3. Cam patiently waited for the right moment and exited pit lane in the final stages of qualifying and claimed pole position in convincing style.

Race 1: With the full support of the Cayenne MV owners club, the two F3’s lined up on the first row of the grid. The first part of the race saw Cam pulling away until the session was red flagged because of an accident involving his main rival and former stable mate Lance Isaacs. After the restart, it took Cam only two laps to regain the lead and pull away from P2 by more than 4 seconds wining in convincing style. Brent Harran was caught in a battle for second as he was piped to the line ended in P3. Podiums for both F3 MV’s

Race 2: Boasted with a win in the first race, Cam was full of confidence for the second heat, he hole-shot the start but then ran wide that saw Kershaw take advantage. Om lap three Cam found his rythem with in a top draw overtaking manoeuvre into the extremely fast turn 4. With little resistance to fear during the remainder of the race, Cam crossed the line in P1. Brent Harran had a great start, but tyre wear got the best of him due to so many laps in qualifying, he held on to fight P4, still giving him overall third podium of the day.

Overall: Claiming pole position and winning both races is a big step towards the 2013 title, team principle Brad Anassis elaborates. It is very special to see our F3 MV’s performing so well in their first year of competition and it’s even more special to see it happening in front of the MV Augusta / Cayenne clientele. Having both MV’s on the podium is always special. This was a very valuable race for us and although some of the competition made mistakes, we took full advantage of the situation and gain a healthy lead in the lead in the SA championship standing. We have still a lot of work to do in the coming 7(!) week break before the next outing at the ultra fast and coastal race at East London. We will most probably squeeze in an extra test to install and try out newly available equipment for the Liqui Moly MV’s.
