It is only done through the dealership. Proprietary software and expensive hardware...liability concerns, as well as EPA regulations.
That said, you can get ECU Studio and just do your own.
Firmware updates are at no cost to the owner, I'm an MV Dealer. We don't get compensated for it by MV but I believe most dealers are on the same page. We do Firmware check as part of our routine checks on every bike that rolls in the Service Department.

ECU map updates to the MV done by the factory are for unmodified ECUs, usually to improve drivability complaints.
Your ECU Studio mapping would negate any value a factory map update would provide, so no reason to even ask for it.
