First off, I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the technical section as it's a Duc and not an MV. So if it needs to be moved please let me know.
The old man has a 2003 Multistrada 1000ds with circa 21k miles on the clock. We have just solved an oil leak from an incorrectly fitted starter motor. But it still has an issue with idling.
The bike will fire up and tries to hold an idle but it ultimately dies very quickly. The only way to get it to fire and run is to give it a blip when it fires and hold a minute amount of throttle and hold it like that for a short while. We eventually got it to idle and just over 1000rpm, it idled fine, but if you give it a burst and quickly close the throttle it does again and then doesn't want to start.
I have done some research and it seems that these bikes have a stepper motor that is controlled by the ECU to manage the idle speed, it seems to be working, to a point, as you can see it is hunting to maintain the idle but it's like the base line is too low and eventually it just cuts out.
Does anyone have any experience with these bikes that can offer up any tips or hints.
Sadly I don't think it shares the same ECU as my '04 Brutale so the logger I have from Merc on here won't be able to read any faults if there were any.
