Dragster Rear Luggage Rack

Ok, So i know it's not a touring bike, but there are a few who want to take it on trips longer than a day and/or maybe take some luggage with them ;-)

So to that end and considering i was bored in the workshop this evening, I decided to tackle the problem, ok not really a problem there, but i love challenges & self inflicted projects, so set to work making a prototype rear rack for the Dragster.

A few hours later, here's what i came up with......yes maybe not the best looking thing in the world, but what luggage carriers are? It's simple, practical and serves a function, at least no horrible scaffolding everywhere and it can be fitted or removed in 2-3 minutes, 3 allen bolts, that's it, No mods to the bike needed & very strong, i had my 9 year old daughter sit on it and it held her weight with no problems.

I now have the final template, so i intend to get one laser cut from 6mm Aluminium & powder coated in the the next few weeks, so if anyone else is interested in it, then please let me know so that i can gauge interest, as it's possible i could get a batch made up, the more i get made, the cheaper they would be. Alternatively, if you're handy in the garage, then you could easily knock one up of your own.

Hi
i used a Ram mount ball and a socket that bolt directly to the Zumo mount.
You can get them on ebay.

To run the cables, take the head light of ( 2 bolts) a run the cables through with all the other control cables from the handle bars to the main relay.
It's on the right hand side of the bike, just in front of the fuse box.
You can either wire it via fuse directly to the battery cable there or pick up an ignition wire in the relay plug.

As i was running cables, i also ran a power socket up there to, which now gives me a nice place to plug in for either the tank bag (charging phones etc) or heated clothing.

What is that at the front of your bike there with Dragster written down it ?

it is the brackets for the Puig screen, works a treat. Unlike a lot of aftermarket screens, this one actually looks like it was designed for the bike.

Thank you Johnsie!
purchased today and shipped today! :)
Wow, this looks a great solution, well done. How has it held up durability wise on the attachment points after sustained use? How easy is the attachment and removal?

I'm thinking about trading my Triumph STR for one of these for a while but haven't yet because of my annual EU tour, for which I haven't been able to find a decent luggage solution, until now. Could you be tempted to commission another few units Johnsie? I'll be back in the UK in the new year.

Thanks
Attachment and removal is 3 small Allen head bolts, simple enough. I've only used mine once for a 3 day tour of the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern Spain and it was perfect. Once it's fitted it's very solid, I had 2 Kreiga bags on it and it is perfect for them.
Well done on the design and execution. Don't want to be a Debby Downer but I use this and it holds a lot and no strap slapping. Very tidy and aerodynamic. Works great!

Rack fitment

These photos may give you a better idea of fitment and whether it will suit your bike with the tail tidy.
looks like it should fit ok.

Thank you for quick reply and new pictures. I think it will fit and I have ordered it now :smile2: It looks very sleek and easy to fit. Thanks for the effort. Two small things:
1 I'm a bit worried about intrusion of dirt and water under the seat. Any tips in that regard?
2 What Puig screen are you using? I can't find it in the configurator on their website. And it is easy to fit?

Best regards :smile2:
Hi
With regards to the dirt, i think the rack would shield most fit, probably more than without it? But you could cut to shape a bit of cheap black foam and place that there, that would do it.

If you Google or search ebay for "MV agusta dragster puig screen" you will find hundreds of them. hope that helps.

Paul
Thanks a lot, Johnsie. Looking forward to receive the rack. :smile2:
The rack is brilliant. Simplicity and genius.
Are them still available? If yes: link? (I didn't find them anywhere in the web)
Search for MV AGUSTA BRUTALE DRAGSTER 800 RR ALUMINIUM REAR LUGGAGE RACK BOLT-ON NO MODS" on eBay item number:152878360111

Thanks
Sorry, no results. (both, description or item number)
