Hi, I'm romell and new to the forum. I got a 12k deal with the 2013 F3 without ABS in our deleaship(WA state). But I also saw a used 12k miles F4 312r 08' at the same price. This would be my first MV and I lusted several years with the 4 pipes until the f3s came along. Thinking about driving it daily on a good weather so the I need a good advise on which to get for a daily 90mile drive. I am spending 400$ a month for gas so also I need to justify to the Wifey the savings I could get with getting a bike.

I cut fuel costs a little with bike riding 100 mile daily total commute, but I have to tell you that unless you are currently getting 17miles to the gallon or less on your car, you will save nothing with an MV F4. Your maintenance cost will nullify the savings. F3 maybe better off but not by much in all honesty. Further more, your time spent with maintenance over a car will increase by about 50% as the service interval is much more intense for the bike. Even more, I've yet to find out how well my bike can be serviced as there is hardly anyone who is skilled to maintain it. Just one guy at my dealer. Get a Honda for Daily driver if cost saving is what you are after. Get a Duc, if you want to balance your crazy need for exotic plus some practicality for daily use. Get an MV if its purely about the emotion and you are willing to do anything for your significant other, because the MV will command that from you, eventually, IMO...YMMV

I was actually contemplating of getting just the kawi zx6r as a daily until my wife would eventually get used to me riding a bike again( it's been 4 years since my last ride) then hopefully I could get those MVs later. Thanks for the advise! I'd love to see one in my garage someday.

I'd buy a Gen1 F4, but not that 12k-mile '08 for $12K. Penty of low=milers for the same or less money.
I agree with this. An '08 F4-312R with less than 4K miles should be in the $10.5K-11.5K range, even with aftermarket exhaust. Be patient.

Also, be aware that a 12K mile F4-312R is a strong candidate for needing a new rear hub in the next several thousand miles. If it's on the original hub, I'd go ahead and give Mitchy a ring just for the peace of mind.

If you decide that you just have to have that 312R, I'd use the rear hub replacement as a bargaining chip to talk them down closer to $10K. Or wait for another one with lower mileage.

There's one on eBay from a MV dealer in Colorado with 2,800 miles with bidding starting at $10K. So far, no bids - and they've listed that bike several times over the past several months.

You can also source original hubs with the better bearings from those of us who have such things lying around the garage.

Fragile;
where did you come up with this crap......

MVs maintenance intensive?????

current;

'02 BMW R1150GS 59,000+ mi
eats oil like a coke whore, valve adjustment/head retorque every 6,000mi, ate a clutch slave, 3 alternator belts, rear main is leaking, wiring harness covers are falling off, windscreen is opaque, seat cover was cracking at 10K, right saddlebag delaminated and used 3 batteries and the ABS sucks

'01 KTM 640 Duke ll 27,000+ mi
front wheel bearing died, cam went flat, cylinder head cracked...no help from KTM, rubber rotting off...uses zero oil, original chain

'04 Aprilia RSVR 30,000+ mi
on 7th stator, zero valve adjustments, valve covers leaked ~12K, uses zero oil, got chain and sprockets at 30K

'08 Brutale 910R 24,000 mi
burned 2 low beams, on original chain, zero valve adjustments, tiny oil leak.....it may just be the cheap caps on the breathers....they are cracked...side stand needed a tune up today

none on a tender.....

what is my go to bike ? the Brutale

for distance? the Aprilia

hauling stuff around? the rubber cow, the GS

KTM is so out of here as soon as I do the valves:naughty:

own a Ducati?

no thanks......I can barely tolerate the BMW and its maintenance BS

I want my F4 on the road :drummer:

then the BMW will probably get sold too

:drummer:

I son't think my '08 F4 312R has cost me more than $300.00 in maintenance costs in 10,000 miles.
They aren't expensive at all.

I think I could manage to alternate the bike with my two cars for work. I found one with very low miles. I hope I could get this. My heart is just feeling something even thinking about riding an MV.

My Brutale hs become my daily ride.... My monster S2R 1000 has 60k on the odometer and just sits in the garage now..

My lust for an F4 is becoming intolerable ( have a 996 SPS as well- she needs a 24k service and tires).. Looks like i;m about to piss off the wife again.

My advice is a Brutale to commute and general play about bike... an F4 for track and canyon carving

Compared to my previous bikes, my MVs don't get very good fuel economy. I'm sure the more modern ones with proper ecus and fuel mapping are better, but my 16M powered bikes get less than 30mpg no matter how I ride them.
