Apparently there is an AWOL 89 year old British pensioner that sorta snuck out of his old folks home and made his way to Normandy for the event. I'd like to shake that man's hand.

An American television commentator said 450 WWII vets are dying each day.

He made his way and is now a hero,he's been all over the news here. He was a captain in the royal navy and was in the convoy that escorted the landing ships to the beaches. After the ceremony in Normandy he made his way home and was given a heroes welcome on the ferry and was on the bridge with the captain for the crossing. All this because he was too late getting his name on the list for an organised trip with his local veterans society. His name is Bernard Jordan from Hove is sussex.
