Save your money, Stephen, it fell about 7mph short...Cycle World, July 2008.

It did, however, post the fastest lap at Miller in the Turn & Burn shootout, the second fastest 100-180mph time, and the 2nd fastest 0-180mph time (lost to the ZX-10R only in both)...Associate Editor Mark Cernicky equated the ride to that of a Superbike...Really nice words were said about it, actually, receiving criticisms only for it's singular focus, funky use of starter button as trip meter, co$t, and a warm saddle.

Ride on...

They also said no one would buy one to commute. I bought one to ride and most of my riding is commuting; ergo, I must be insane.

Kind of...They actually asked, "..does anyone actually buy one of these to commute!?!" And remember, this was the 1078 RR version of the 312...Not that I expect the ergos to be any better than they are on the regular 312, so ya, but I like that kind of insane! :)

I couldn't believe he would criticize the starter button, price and
warm saddle...:cussing:

It's a great design with the starter button, you only adjust the trip
before or after you fueled up. This cures the problem of accidental
resets (you can only reset it when the bike is running).

Price....Hmmmm.......You pay what you get..(I guess).

Warm saddle?!?!?!?!?! I think the 1098 and R1 are the same since
I've ridden both of them.:blah:

I'll bet if they pulled the mirrors, taped over some of the faring holes & Dzus fasteners, pulled the mesh from the ram air ducts and with just the right sized rider, they would have gotten 7mph or more.

I am actually considering getting another MV for commuting aka the 1078. I bet if you dropped some weight with all carbon bodywork it would give the 10R a run for its money. My brother has a 10R and it IS blindingly fast though the front is ugly as sin!

I wasn't going to say it first, but now that you have, I'll add my agreement.
