Hi everyone!

I'm new to the board and don't know much about MV except from what I have seen on youtube and reviews.

I just sold my car and I'm thinking of getting a brand new Brutale 1090R and would like to know if there are any know issues to the previous Brutales and if they have been fixed. I heard of jerky throttle response and that the 800 likes doing stoppies. :brutale: Even that icon name is Brutale... Are they truly that light at the back or can you slam on the brakes without transforming yourself to Superman?

How is the price for service and does it require more attention than a BMW for example as in valve adjustments etc. It's Italian... Should I be worried or are they a fairly safe buy? I will probably do like 10000km on it annually as a commuter and joy riding.

MV's are quite rare here in Sweden and only a few dealers. They just got an agency here this year so there aren't many Swedes to ask.

Hi and welcome on board, personally you couldn't buy a better all round bike. Very cheap to maintain and longish intervals between major service work requirements, valves require very little maintenance unless you plan to go racing, my 2012 RR Brute has 15000 k's on her with zero problems. Oils and filters are really only costs with servicing for first 20K. Heaps of fun whatever your riding style

Hi and welcome also. I also have a 2012 1090RR with about 7500 mi on it and has been a joy to own. It does everything well and is reliable and draws a crowd when it's parked. I also have a 2010 F4 and a Ducati 1098r Bayliss but the Brutale is my "go to" bike almost all the time! You won't regret owning one. It's my understanding that the 1090r has more torque and a little less horsepower than the RR but I would think it would help the overall driveability.

Thank you guys for your posts. Feels assuring to hear from you. I got hold of a Brutale 675 owner in Sweden and he also only had warm words to give as well as the owners manual, maintenance guide and the accessory brochure for the 2013 Brutale.

I just have to wait for better weather then I will go for a test drive.

What would you choose?

Tough decision. Personally I would choose RR, no matter which you go for you'll be happy

Kind of depends on your riding plans too. If you're riding where lower revs and higher torque are favoured, then go with the R, but if you're going to be running the bike out more in higher revs the RR is better. I've got an R and love the power and for commuting and most roads it's awesome, but when pushing it and, though I have yet to get it there, on the track it falls off on the upper end (+220kph or so). Until then it's a beast.

Stoppies aren't an unwanted thing on these bikes, they do them, but they'll also stop hard without them. They hold their weight really well even full (relatively big tank) and are overall amazing.

Words are shallow though, test ride them both, your choice is your choice.

Is that 13 RR with ABS? The 14 R definitely is.

If you are looking for a 1000 cc 4-cylinder bike and can live with it's looks - go and test ride the new BMW S 1000 R. It has all the electronics on board that help you out in these moments you just do not want to be in . And it is better in acceleration & from 60 - 140 km/h in last gear. 1090R used to be the best ever tested bike, but now it is the BMW :jsm: .

I cannot accept the design of the BMW and therefore will stay with my Italian beauty.
If you cannot go into your garage and come out with a smile on your face - it is just a lost day .

Basically, they say that below 9500 RPM, the 'R' has more HP and torque than the 'RR'.

Reckler: I'm more of a high rev person but most of the time I will be in the lower revs of course. I prefer it to never stop rather than when it cuts off too early. But yes, I would probably lose on power and torque on the everyday driving but get that extra kick once I push it. I will definitely test drive the R before I buy the RR to see for myself but I will have to wait a few more weeks 'cos the MV dealer is still waiting on their first delivery.

I agree with you! The S1000R costs the same but is a more modern bike with all the fancy stuff but why did they make it so ugly... On the other hand it's German and bullet proof. It's a tough choice for sure!

Thank you all for your inputs. Is the RR having a shorter gearing btw? I heard it had a two cogs difference at the back compared to the R?

Yes,

the RR has two more teeth on the rear sprocket.

Basically the RR is somewhat a de-tuned 1078 F4. With only a decated header and a mapped ECU I got out 180 hp at the crank. The R will never get any near these numbers.....

I have ordered my bike today... I went for the S1000R! It was really a hard decision but I felt that I got more of everything for the money, except maybe the looks. The Brutale is a fantastic bike and I'm sure you guys are having a great time on them. If just MV would have released a new Brutale 1090 this year I'm sure it would have been the ride to pick but I couldn't neglect the fact that I got both packages (Sport & Dynamic), more power, alarm, crash protectors, slip on etc for less money than a year old demo bike.

If I change my mind I know where to turn! =)

each to their own I guess, have you ridden the BMW yet?? also have you ridden any of the Brutales, cos at the end of the day its what gives you the biggest smile on your dial.

No I haven't...

The BMW is not released here yet and the Brutale is 4 hours drive away. MV's are quite rare here and we only have one dealer in the capital and they don't even have one yet (they will start selling Mv's from the end of March). I'm going from XJ650/900 so I believe I'm still in for a treat

I'm pretty sure that 5 years from now.. I will still get a boner when I walk out to the garage and see my RR sitting there.

I wouldn't feel that way about the BMW... I guess I'm more into character than a fabulous swiss army knife... but then I would have gotten the Tuono anyway... that engine sound with a pipe is pretty nice..... but then my bike sounds pretty good too!
