For those of you who are interested in the development of the America a scan of Chris Garville's notes taken on his visits to the factory showing his ideas for the design and marketing of the bike.

I hope that Chris is also going to find time to record some more of the history which I will put on the site. Here is the start:

"As you may already know, my dad and our company, Commerce Overseas Corporation, was the supply chain to Agusta Bell Helicopters; Agusta being a licensee manufacture of Bell helicopters (we supplied the parts for assembly in Italy). I spent a summer, in 1972, living with a family friend and working at the MV factory in Verghera. I began importing the 750 Sports, but styling was a show stopper here in the US. When I saw the race bikes, I saw the key to the U.S. market; make the production bike look like the race bike; market to the US with MV's incredible racing record. And the MV America was born. We were developing a bike from the most famous motorcycle mfg in the world. We were going to sell these bikes to the largest most affluent market in the world. One major hurdle, most Americans had never even heard of MV Agusta."

Amazing how "seat of the pants" this process appears to have been.
Thanks for sharing Bill, I'll look forward to future installments.
