Which tap sizes would be best to add to shop tools?
Which (Thread Pitch Sizes) are correct for early MV screws?

General Purpose Tap
Closed-End Hole


Screw Size x Pitch / Tap Size
M4 x (0.75mm, 0.70mm) /
M5 x (1.00mm, 0.90mm, 0.80mm) /
M6 x 1mm / 5.00mm
M8 x (1.25mm, 1.00mm) /
M10 x (1.50mm, 1.25mm, 1.00mm) /
M12 x (1.75mm, 1.50mm, 1.25mm) /

The picture shows my metric taps less the 3 spark plug taps

This I feared. WHY oh WHY MV?????
I guess a tap at a time when needed. I prefer NOT to work that way.
Print to scale Metric Thread Pitch chart will help when taming the goat. McMaster Carr is certainly a great source for taps.

Reviewing the parts list this is what I've found. Keep in mind there are corresponding nuts to the larger sizes.

I can't ever remember needing a tap for use on a motorcycle
That said I've Heli-Coiled a few things for customers.......and for shits and giggles all the 6mm holes in my
Abarth motor......my neighbor owns an insert company so they were free:grin2:

Normally there is rarely if ever a need unless severe corrosion or jammed all up with threadlock. Historically, my K75s definitely was a good patient for occasional thread cleaning since 87. But... then again that was an all-weather bike for a 150,000 miles venture, from crazy high-wind sandstorms, hurricane washouts, a freaking tornado run in, painful hail and torrential downpours --and of course snow! Certainly not with my MV. :wink2:

Stuck bolts?
As tested by the guys on the North Sea oil platforms.......
Best thing there is, is a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone
Better than even Kroil.....and that stuff is amazing :grin2:

Buying taps or dies? Screw McMaster-Carr

Get real high speed cobalt taps and dies from your local machinist's supply
They usually speak cash......for a discount too >:)>:)
