Guys/Gals,
I registered here as I had the opportunity to test drive the 990R at the weekend.

I currently have a Ninja 10R, and looking to downgrade in terms of power, and upgrade in terms of comfort. Previously had a Speed Triple, and prefer nakeds in general.

I was looking at either a Brutale (990 or 989), Ducati Streetfighter or the Street triple. I decided against the Speed as they say you should never go back to your first love.

So, a couple of things about the 990r. I noticed that the acceleration was not so hot. I know, I cannot compare to my current bike, nor do I need that kind of power, but I feel as though the Speed had the power more at hand.
Now, the guy at the garage was saying the 990 engine was more docile, amd that the 989 was more aggressive. Is this the case?

What other main differences exist between the 989 and the 990?
What are the service costs like? Normally the Italians are expensive.

I have to say that the bike was a dream to ride. Light to move around, small and thin for driving through traffic, etc... oh, and what a wonderful sound :)

Concern. I like to go out on rides, as do we all, but I suffer traffic. So, I need to ensure that the bike is capable of harsh acceleration in short space.

As the bike is not the cheapest, here anyway, I just want to make sure that everything is good before I take the plunge.

Hi and welcome....how about a Brutale 1078..... I have one, if you want INSTANT power on tap...it sure is... 'capable of harsh acceleration in a short space'. One of my mates had a speed triple 1050...good bike..but NO comparison! And don't believe all the scary stories about the service costs. Get one....you'll love it!!. Cheers Brian.

I agree with the 1078, i'd try and go with a bigger engine. Price difference probably isn't to much anyway? It has 150hp so will give you a bit more of a wild ride!

But beware of 1078, it warps time-space continuum. Not many bikes that out accelerate this thing. Except , well, 1090.

Why get the 1078 when the 1090 rocks it's socks off (guess what I have)

I test rode both the 990 and the 989 and enjoyed the 989 more as it was a bit more of a handfull.

Then I got on the 1090 and never looked back. The 1090 will tear yer arms off but still be all day comfortable

Thanks for the feedback.
Issue with the 1090 is the price, at least here in Spain.
I guess I will be looking for the 989 second hand then.....on one hand it is nice that these bikes are exclusive, but on the other, it makes finding 2nd hand options more difficult :)

+1 on the 1078 but best value for dollars down here would be a 989
