I know the triples suffer from kangaroo clutch and my MY17 B3 800 was no exception. I did the Belleville spring flip and clutch plate relocate on it and it completely went away.

Im now having the same exact issue on my new to me Nürburgring that only has 1100 miles on the clock. Take off is jumpy, inconsistent and fast takeoffs are impossible. It’s the exact same symptoms as my B3 800. Since the bike is under warranty I’m going to let the dealer sort it out. Anyone else experience this on a B4 1000RS/RR/Nürburgring?

also while riding today I got Malfunction SCU message on the dash. It stayed during the whole ride. When I turned the bike off and back on it didn’t come back. Any ideas what this could be?

thanks in advance!

What does the owner manual say about SCU ?? I'm struggling to figure out what that is an acronym for.
Suspension Control Unit ???
Turning the key off and back on resets the fault code, it will come back if the fault still exists.

you nailed it. With my limited research it is indeed suspension control unit. I’ve found a few posts stating using contact cleaner on the suspension plugs might help. Not sure why a bike less than a year old that’s been kept indoors in a dry state like Arizona would need the contacts cleaned tho.

A small yet unfortunate update. Took the bike to the local MV dealer and got some (for now) bad news. Due to the KTM buy out, pretty much all dealers are in limbo right now not knowing if they are going to continue being MV Authorized service centers for warranty work. They basically asked that I just check back with them weekly to get updates on which way it goes.
Aside from that, they are only going to charge me $62.50 to update the software in the dash so it shows up as a Brutale dash instead of rush, and read the SCU codes to see what component is causing the issue. Figured $62 is cheap enough where I’m ok with paying for it. Got it scheduled for 2 weeks from now.

as for the kangaroo clutch, decided to take the clutch pack out and see if the Belleville spring has cut a groove onto the plate and fix it myself just like my B3 800.

engine is still kinda hot so I’ve made it this far, letting her cool down before I continue.

Belleville spring groove is present. Not nearly as deep as the one on my B3 800 but then again that bike had 16k miles on it when I did the spring flip mod. This one only has 1k. Spring has been flipped, grooved plate has been relocated and everything has been reinstalled and torqued to spec. Only thing left is a test ride to see if it made a difference. I’ll report back later on today.

This will be an interesting outcome either way.
Fingers crossed man! The difference this same mod made to my 800 was impressive. The bike went from not being able to take off fast to taking off from a red light raising its front wheel. Hoping for the same result here.

You would think correcting the dash software would be part of pre-delivery service the dealer didn't bother to do !!! I would expect then to do that at no charge...just how much did you pay them for this new bike ??? Go talk with the dealership owner.

The bike is 2nd hand. It’s less than a year old and has 1000 miles on it. It still has warranty but the whole KTM takeover thing has dealers in limbo. Anyhoo the first owner bought the bike from a cali dealer. He never tried connecting his phone to it. Guessing the dealer didn’t. That’s the only way you’d know.

Just got back from riding it. There is for sure improvement on takeoff after the clutch spring flip. Not as much as my 800. I am now able to get good launches from fully stopped by changing how I launch the bike. I have a feeling I’ve been too gentle on her. With the race kit I think it’s tuned for aggressive takeoffs. When I take off aggressively, she launches just fine. I think I just have to adapt to the bike.

Can you please point me to the original thread where you described how you corrected the kangaroo problem to the clutch? Both of my bikes suffered from it as well, by the way….
I think to remember that somehow the FACTORY wrongly asssembles it? I am in a great relationship with EvolutionBike and wanted to try to perhaps have them tell someone at Mv to correct and instruct whoever assembles the clutch…
Both of my other Mv’s, Dragster and Tv suffered from the kangaroo effect and was told that were BADLY put together….
o guess we can all benefits if they hear this,
Thank you

I can walk you through the repair on video chat if you want. It’s super simple. No parts needed, no oil needed. Just a torque wrench capable of 8nm and 10nm and the correct Allen socket for the clutch cover bolts.

Not sure if there are any other Nürburgring owners here but they might benefit from the info I was just given by a bunch of other ring owners out of Italy.

it appears rough/sluggish take offs on the street are all due to the track oriented tuning on the race ecu. They are pretty much tuned this way for hard takeoffs. What these guys have found is installing an arrow DB killer in the race exhaust pretty much fixes the takeoff issue and also brings the noise down to manageable levels for street riding. If you haven’t heard the arrow race exhaust in person, it’s entirely too loud for street use. Sounds like a formula 1 race car an all rev ranges. Anyhoo, here is the dab killer that fits the exhaust
